Job Summary
The Associate Superintendent, Instruction serves as a key leader in ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across Aspire Central Valley schools. This role leads the design, alignment, and implementation of rigorous instructional programs that reflect the region’s academic vision. The Associate Superintendent, Instruction is responsible for operationalizing curriculum, professional learning, and assessment systems that drive student outcomes and close equity gaps.
This leader oversees the work of regional instructional directors and program managers, supporting the implementation of Aspire’s instructional priorities with fidelity. The role requires deep instructional expertise, the ability to lead adult learning at scale, and a relentless focus on culturally responsive and inclusive practices. The Associate Superintendent, Instruction also stewards the regional Equitable Instruction Team, guides curriculum adoptions, and designs high-impact professional learning experiences, including summer institutes and year-round professional learning structures. Reporting to the Superintendent, this position plays a vital role in translating instructional vision into region-wide coherence and improved student achievement.
This role partners closely with the CV Superintendent, other Associate Superintendents, and cross-functional leaders to ensure instructional coherence and alignment with regional priorities.
Essential Duties
Instructional Program Coherence
- Lead and manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of the regional instructional program.
- Ensure coherence across curriculum, instructional practices, assessment systems, and coaching models TK–12.
- Align instructional initiatives to Aspire’s frameworks (ASLF, TLF, GLEAM) and regional priorities.
- Partner with content directors and program managers to support curriculum planning and instructional implementation.
- Facilitate decision-making and support for regional curriculum adoptions and instructional materials.
- Partner with Executive Director, Chief of Staff, Superintendent, Associate Superintendents to set clear instructional vision and measurable goals.
Instructional Excellence
- Collaborate with instructional directors to monitor classroom instruction and support coaching systems aligned to Aspire’s frameworks.
- Analyze student achievement data (iReady, SBAC, interims) to inform priorities, coaching cycles, and instructional adjustments.
- Drive systemwide practices in small group instruction, literacy and math acceleration, and culturally responsive teaching.
Equitable Instruction Leadership
- Oversee the regional Equitable Instruction Team (including content directors and academic program managers), ensuring instructional practices reflect inclusive, anti-racist, and culturally responsive values.
- Monitor implementation of strategies that support multilingual learners, Black excellence initiatives, UDL, and inclusive education.
Data-Driven Decision-Making
- Analyze interim, state, and formative assessment data to inform regional instructional priorities.
- Co-lead data stepbacks and instructional learning walks with instructional directors and school teams.
- Monitor implementation fidelity of key instructional programs and PD.
Professional Learning Design & Execution
- Design and lead the region’s professional learning strategy, including summer PD, regional PD days, and yearlong Communities of Practice.
- Build systems for internalization and capacity building for instructional directors, coaches, and site leaders.
- Collaborate with Associate Superintendents and Student Supports to ensure alignment of adult learning across departments.
Data-Driven Decision-Making

Supervisory Relationships:
- Directly supervise and manage Regional Instructional Directors (including: Director of Humanities, Director of STEAM, Director of Language and Culture, and others as assigned), providing consistent feedback, development, and accountability.
- Facilitates cross-functional instructional collaboration across the regional team.
Competences:
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Deep knowledge of high-quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment aligned to CCSS.
- Expertise in coaching leaders and building adult learning systems at scale.
- Strong analytical skills in using student performance data to drive instructional decisions.
- Ability to articulate a compelling instructional vision and build systems to achieve it.
- Comfort facilitating professional learning that challenges and stretches leaders.
- Strong collaboration, relationship building, and communication skills (written and oral).
- Commitment to Aspire’s mission, equity stance, and values.
Minimum educational level:
- Master’s degree in Education or related field required
- Bachelor’s degree and significant content expertise may be considered with equivalent experience and demonstrated instructional leadership capacity
- CA Teaching Credential Required
- CA Administrative Credential, preferred
Experience required:
- Minimum of 7–10 years in education, including teaching and progressively responsible leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience leading instructional programs, managing adult learning systems, or coaching instructional leaders.
- Proven track record of improving student outcomes through instructional leadership.
Physical requirements:

Work authorization requirements:
- Clear the Department of Justice background screening
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Provide health (TB) clearance (must update every four years)
