JOB SUMMARY 
Under the direction of the Principal, the Health Technician performs specialized physical health care services for students. They have a responsibility to ensure that the school site visited is maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all Aspire students and staff. 

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

OngoinOngoing Activities 
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment for students and staff; provide information to staff, students and parents regarding safety issues, head lice, hand-washing practices, and other health-related matters 
  • Prepare reports for school nurse and administration regarding immunizations status and health conditions by school site 
  • Distribute health care plans to school site staff, as needed 
  • Assist with obtaining appropriate signatures for medication administration and health care plan 
  • Work with school nurses and school personnel and outside organizations to exchange information, refer students, report suspected child abuse, coordinate activities and resolve other health-related issues and concerns 
  • Contact appropriate parties for health histories as needed for IEPs, 504s, healthcare plan development, and forward to RN for review 
  • Train and provide work direction to other staff and students as assigned 
Healthcare Delivery 
  • Assist with mandated vision/hearing screenings, data entry and follow-up regarding failed tests, as well as referrals 
  • Perform specialized physical health care services for students including suctioning, blood sugar testing, and medication administration 
  • Assure cleanliness and sanitary conditions of medical instruments and offices 
  • Assist with immunization follow-ups as needed

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.  
QUALIFICATIONS 
  1.   Competencies: 
  • Knowledge of District policies and State regulations concerning student immunization 
  • Knowledge of CA and County health and safety regulations, including HIPAA and other health privacy laws 
  • Knowledge of modern medical terminology, equipment and accepted medical assessment techniques 
  • Ability to operate specialized medical equipment, machines and instruments 
  • Knowledge of accepted methods and principles of personal hygiene 
  • Knowledge of basic diagnostic methods for medical conditions and diseases 
  • Knowledge of public health agencies and local health care resources 
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field 
  • Knowledge of contracted student transportation policies 
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule work independently with little direction 
  • Ability to read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures 
  • Ability to establish files, records, reports and referrals and record sensitive information accurately 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student medical records 
  • Bilingual – Spanish English preferred 
  • Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation 
  1. Minimum educational level: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification 
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred  
  1. Experience required: 
  • 1 - 3 years performing similar duties preferred 
  1. Physical requirements: 
  • Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height 
  • Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping) 
  • Demonstrate normal depth perception 
  • Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time 
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone 
  • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids 
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aides 
  1. Work authorization requirements:  
  • Clear the Department of Justice background screening 
  • Authorized to work in the United States 
  • Provide health (TB) clearance (most update every four years) 
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
The work environment characteristics are representative of those in a normal office, classroom/school setting which one might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.   • May be required to work outside of typical work days and office hours to meet operational deadlines 

The hourly pay band for this position is $23.57-$34.34 based on year of experience.
