Leave & Workers Comp Specialist (Part-Time)

Description

American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Part-Time Leave and Workers Compensation Specialist to join our Human Resources (HRS) department. This position will provide oversight of the companies leave of absence, workers compensation, ergonomics and health and safety programs by providing excellent customer service and meeting all regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of Leave of Absence (LOA) and Workers Compensation Process:
  • Meets with employees as needed to discuss the process and provides appropriate documents.
  • Partners with third-party leave of absence administrator and oversees the relationship.
  • Records necessary information in the HRIS system.
  • Responsible for tracking and billing employees out on leave who have benefits and processing returned payments.
  • Follows up with employees scheduled to return from leave of absence to ensure appropriate return to work process.
  • Approves Kincare absences as appropriate.
  • Seeks counsel as directed and refers significant or complex matters to Sr. Manager, Benefits and Vice President, Human Resources.
  • Provides injured workers with workers compensation claim form and notifies occupational injury clinic of specific information related to injury.
  • Notifies workers’ compensation carrier of work injury.
  • Follows up with injured worker to obtain work status report.
  • Discusses work restrictions with manager.
  • Coordinate Quarterly Workers Compensation review process.
  • Reviews monthly Loss Run Reports and authorizes Workers Compensation billing; Coordinates regular Workers Compensation review meetings with broker and insurance carrier.
  • Works with broker and insurance carriers on ways to reduce the cost of claims.
  • Reviews, investigates, and analyzes related trends in employee’s accidents and injuries to develop solutions.
  • Complies reports such as US Department of Labor/Bureau of labor statics.
  • Participates in trainings for management.
  • Provides oversight of the companies Injury and Illness and Emergency programs:
  • Maintains the Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
  • Ensures OSHA requirements are met.
  • Provides Ergonomics training to management.
  • Conducts Ergonomic assessments upon request from management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. If equivalent experience, high school diploma required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive leave of absence and workers’ compensation experience.
  • Well versed in FMLA, ADA, CFRA and PDL and state specific leave and disability requirements.
  • Experience with EEOC and DFEH claims.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in health and safety within a corporate environment. Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience working in a HRIS and timekeeping system.
  • Certificate in Human Resources or Benefits preferred.

Mobility

Primarily sedentary, able to sit for extended periods of time.

Physical Requirements

Ability to speak, see and hear other personnel and/or objects. Ability to communicate both in verbal and written form. Ability to travel within the facility. Capable of using a telephone and computer keyboard. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

Environmental Conditions

Usual office setting.
