American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer II to join our Information Management team. This position will be responsible for driving and delivering efficient, streamlined data solution support. Primary role will be to lead key projects, establish the approach to development of new data assets, improve current designs and structures, troubleshooting and resolving data availability issues, and establishing structured training and quality for the IMD team.  Will also include other reporting system support, and maintenance, with opportunities to develop innovative solutions and explore new technologies.

Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained virtually and must have the capability to work from home in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. 

Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned projects and supports activities of team. Ensures accurate and prompt completion of deliverables across the team.  Ensures efficiency in project completion and works cooperatively with all internal and external contacts.  Analyzes, evaluates, and documents data requests to understand and prioritize requests appropriately.
  • Strong ability to gather requirements and understand and solve for business needs.
  • Support client meetings to identify technical needs of reports and establish working relationships with client technical and non-technical teams.
  • Build and maintain, relationships with business stakeholders to meet business and client information objectives.
  • Apply strong critical thinking skills when interacting directly with the stakeholders and analyzing and implementing criteria.
  • Exercise strong problem-solving skills when exploring, analyzing, and troubleshooting data.
  • Translates user non-technical requirements to existing data sources. Develop and maintain assets, views, and other data management to support reporting needs for the business.
  • Performs analysis of data sources; designs and develops solutions to ensure data quality.
  • Analyzes and documents business requirements in the form of specifications (operational and technical specifications) and obtains necessary input and approval.
  • Designs, builds, documents, and manages data assets and ETL processing solutions.
  • Lead BI Solutions (DBMS, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Tableau) development and performance tuning.
  • Coordinate workflow of department ensuring that productivity, quality, and timeliness standards are met.
  • Provides leadership as a data expert; participates in interviews and may support new hire onboarding.
  • Supports department functions as they interface with other departments to ensure efficient and effective teamwork within the organization as defined by management.
  • Conduct training for team members and end-users when needed
  • Conducts quality review on data development as needed.
  • Provides constructive feedback, mentorship, interviewing and training sessions as required.
  • Serve on committees, workgroups, and project teams and attends client meetings as needed.
  • Supports department functions as they interface with other departments to ensure efficient and effective teamwork within the organization as defined by management.
  • Serve as a data engineer expert for the team and the organization, which may include gathering requirements and interpreting data.
  • Conducts trainings for team members and end-users when needed.
  • Generates and conducts quality review on data development, and source control pull requests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or related field or equivalent work experience is preferred. If equivalent experience, high school diploma required.
  • 6 years of experience developing Business Intelligence solutions.
  • 8 years of experience with data modeling, database design, and data warehouse and ETL design
  • 8 years of experience developing solutions using the MS SQL Server BI Stack including expert knowledge of T-SQL.
  • 3 years of experience developing data platform in Azure Cloud including data pipelines, spark pools, serverless datawarehouse and working with Synapse elements.
  • 3 years of experience in programming solutions using Csharp, Python, JSON and Azure cloud specific code.
  • Experience in managed health care setting a plus.
  • Experience with agile development/SCRUM a plus.
  • Microsoft data-related certification a plus.
  • Azure cloud related certification a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required with ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical senior level staff to determine business goals and objectives and develop plans to achieve those objectives.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively while fostering growth for the team.
  • Strong ability to translate business requirements to technical specifications; effectively problem solves with team members
  • Demonstrates valuable subject matter expertise of ASH business operations, database structures, and reporting solutions.
  • Ability to identify connections and dependencies between data sources and/or business processes.
  • Ability to think abstractly and creatively beyond basic data requirement.
  • Ability to quickly absorb and apply new concepts, learn new data domains, and adopt to a changing environment.
  • Excellent technical skills, able to work with multiple platforms, integrate data with various sources.
  • Strong knowledge of principles, techniques and best practices of enterprise data warehouse, data modeling, ETL design patterns and configurations, and dimensional data structures.
  • Advanced understanding of security implementation in databases and BI solutions.
  • Strong technical leadership skills to design and influence technical direction and best practices within the team and across the organization
  • Leads the team in learning new software, technology and processes.
