Ardelyx was founded with a mission to discover, develop and commercialize innovative, first-in-class medicines that meet significant unmet medical needs. Ardelyx has two commercial products approved in the United States, IBSRELA®(tenapanor) and XPHOZAH® (tenapanor), as well as early-stage pipeline candidates.

Purpose of the role:

Serving as a field-based extension of Ardelyx, Medical Affairs, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will represent Ardelyx and will be a part of the GI Medical Affairs Team.

The MSL will build long term peer to peer relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and other stakeholders within the GI community to deliver clinical, scientific, and technical education supporting IBSRELA®.  The MSL serves as an advanced technical, scientific, and medical expert in the therapeutic area of IBS-C for the assigned region.  The MSL builds and maintains strong relationships with the KOLs and other stakeholders to foster company, disease state and therapeutic awareness.  The MSL is responsible for developing, coordinating, and assuring implementation of Ardelyx’s corporate, scientific, and clinical strategies with these thought leaders within academic, clinical, and healthcare organizations. These scientific exchanges will support and/or expand current therapeutic concepts, as well as ensure the safe and effective utilization of Ardelyx’s assets.
 
Position Responsibilities:
 
This position serves as the primary field-based medical liaison in providing medical information and scientific exchange to external/internal stakeholders. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to establish a network within the relevant scientific community.
  • Identify, establish, and manage collaborative relationships with local, national, and regional medical/scientific leaders/investigators to identify and address scientific needs
  • Present healthcare professionals and decision makers with accurate, unbiased, balanced, and timely answers to unsolicited request for information in the field of gastroenterology and primary care.
  • Establish scientific and clinical relationships with thought leaders and academic/community centers to expand research and educational opportunities in gastroenterology
  • Engage in proactive non-product discussions regarding scientific issues (e.g., disease state, diagnosis, epidemiology, unmet medical need, population health, etc.)
  • Support data generation activities as requested by Ardelyx
  • Support an Investigator Initiated Trial (IIT) program by acting as the primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator-initiated research
  • Keep abreast of medical and scientific developments in assigned therapeutic area
  • Actively participate in advisory boards and other company meetings
  • Participate in key medical and scientific conferences
Position Requirements:
  • Doctorate degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, DNP, etc) in biological sciences OR Advanced Medical/Scientific degree (NP, PA) with combined clinical expertise
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience and/or minimum 2 years of clinical expertise within gastroenterology/IBS-C
  • Ability to apply technical expertise and solutions to diverse/individualized situations
  • Critical data analysis skills
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills
  • Networking skills and the confidence to interact with senior experts on a peer-to-peer level
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and work in cross functional network/matrix
  • Knowledge of FDA and OIG requirements, as well as the PhRMA Code, including regulations governing compliant scientific exchange
  • Ability to travel, locally and regionally as requested/required
  • Valid driver’s license
Work Environment:
  • This position covers MI, IN, OH, PA, NJ, KY. The Ideal candidate to live in Indianapolis, Cleveland, or Philadelphia.
  • Regular travel to Ardelyx corporate offices.
The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $165,000-$181,500. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
