Job Summary:
We have an opening for a motivated Scientist within the immunohistochemistry (IHC) group who can develop and run tissue-based assays to support our preclinical and exploratory clinical programs for biomarker discovery. The primary responsibilities of this position involve independently carrying out the planning, and execution of immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), and fluorescent multiplex assays. This position requires comprehensive experience in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy/cryotomy, routine IHC and histology stains, microscopy/imaging, and digital image analysis. Job Responsibilities:
The job duties and responsibilities for this Scientist position include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Develop chromogenic and immunofluorescent multiplex IHC/IF/ISH assays for various preclinical and exploratory biomarker programs
  • Collaborate with biomarker and preclinical research leads to build assays with clinical applications in mind
  • Conducting thorough IHC assay validation and characterization, including extensive antibody specificity testing on a range of FFPE and frozen samples
  • Scanning and image analysis of singleplex chromogenic IHC and multiplex immunofluorescent assays using both standard scoring methods and digital image analysis software
  • Procurement of the tissue and reagent ordering for the efficient running of the lab
  • Data visualization using commercially available statistical software
  • Presenting data regularly at different team meetings and ability to communicate effectively across multifunctional teams (pharmacodynamics, biomarker, biology, etc) 
  • Ideal candidate is a self-starter and a motivated individual who can work independently as well as in a team when required.
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Candidates with a Ph.D. degree with experience in a relevant scientific field such as biomedical sciences, oncology, immuno-oncology, or MS degree with 5+ years of research experience, preferably in an industry setting are welcome to apply. The title will be commensurate with experience.
  • Solid working knowledge and hands-on experience with IHC techniques, including different automated staining platforms (such as DAKO, Leica BOND, etc), brightfield/fluorescent whole slide scanning using Panoramic Midi II/Phenoimager HT is required.
  • The ideal candidate will also possess extensive experience with tissue processing, embedding, and sectioning (FFPE and cryosections).  
  • Experience in developing multiplex fluorescent assays and algorithms for digital image analysis software is a plus.
  • Cell culture experience is a plus
  • Mentoring junior members in the group when needed
  • Onsite lab-based position
This is a lab-based position based at our Hayward, CA location. The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this position is $125,000 - $165,000. Factors such as relevant experience, education, duration of experience, and length of industry experience will influence the actual title and salary offered.
