Staff Accountant

Summary
The Staff Accountant will report to the Director of R&D Accounting and play an active role in the financial close process and preparation of month-end/quarter-end journal entries.
Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries in compliance with GAAP and the company’s policies and procedures. Support entries with proper documentation and approvals.
- Actively participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process to ensure accurate and timely completion of expenses, accrual, and prepayments accounts.
- Review and analyze R&D and clinical contracts and change orders, vendor financial reports and invoices, compare and reconcile data to purchase orders, budgets, work orders, as needed, to determine the appropriate journal entries.
- Maintain and prepare monthly reconciliation, roll forward schedules, and analysis
- Assist with external audit requests and PBC items for the quarterly and year-end audits.
- Participate and support the maintenance of Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements with external SOX auditors.
- Assist with special ad-hoc projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in accounting operations
- BA in Finance/Accounting required
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Knowledge of GAAP, SOX 404 compliance
- Excellent communication skills are required
- Proven success working well under pressure, organized with the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work in an environment with continued process improvement and change
- Experience with NetSuite and Coupa preferred
- Biopharmaceutical industry and public accounting experience desired
- Experience in interactions with external auditors (internal control/SOX auditors, external financial auditors) desired
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds. • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts. • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls. • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job. • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. • Ability to lift heavy objects, possibly weighing up to 50 pounds. • Position may require repetitive motion.
