Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all facility equipment, including HVAC systems, vacuum pumps, generators, and more.
  • Troubleshoot and repair any issues with the facility's equipment and infrastructure to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair work.
  • Assist with facility improvements and renovations as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure the overall efficiency of the facility.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Report directly to Facilities Senior Technician
  • Oversee and perform the duties associated with events, including executing the set-up plan in a timely manner, breakdowns are completed on schedule with spaces returned to normal state. 
  • Assists and serves as back up to other Facilities employees.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational technical training and certification in facilities maintenance or a related field is highly desired.
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, preferably in the biotech industry.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment, facilities maintenance, and using basic mechanical skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Commitment to following all safety standards and procedures.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies.
  • Willingness to be on call for emergencies.
  • Ability to use basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and custodial hand and electric powered tools.

Must possess mobility to work in a standard warehouse/campus support setting. The role requires physical stamina and the ability to perform various physical tasks. The following physical requirements are: 
  • Lifting and carrying: The ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds; move heavy boxes, equipment, or inventory.
  • Standing and walking: Extended periods of standing and walking within the campus/facility. Must have the physical endurance to remain on their feet for extended periods while performing their duties.
  • Manual dexterity: Must have good manual dexterity to handle and manipulate small items, operate equipment, and perform tasks that require precise movements.
  • Bending, stooping, and reaching: The ability to bend, stoop, and reach for items on lower and higher shelves is crucial.
  • Physical agility: This role may involve navigating narrow aisles, climbing ladders, and maneuvering in confined spaces. Physical agility and coordination are necessary to perform these tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Safe handling of hazardous materials.
  • Use standard office equipment with or without reasonable accommodation, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.  Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, mouse or calculator, and to operate standard office equipment.

This role will be based at our Hayward, CA location. The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this position is $35 to $45 USD per hour. This salary range is an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this posted position. The actual salary may vary based on various factors including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills and abilities, internal equity and alignment with market data.
