Summary
The Bioinformatics Group at Arcus works in a matrix environment to leverage internal and external high dimensional data in our precision oncology and drug discovery efforts.  
 
We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join us for our summer intern program. Interns will work closely with their mentor to develop cutting edge bioinformatics tools and work with biological datasets to address key questions related to oncology drug development. Projects include method development, algorithm benchmarking, and data analysis spanning complex bulk and single cell data modalities and approaches, including statistical and machine learning approaches. 
Responsibilities
  • Examine large scale public resources such as TCGA, GTEx, and DepMap. 
  • Develop robust processing and analysis frameworks/pipelines across several platforms, including RNA-seq and scRNA-seq. 
  • Benchmark algorithms and methods to identify best ones for implementation. 
  • Evaluate cutting edge ML/AI approaches for fit-for-purpose use cases. 
  • Analyze various datasets to identify molecular markers of response or understand processes relevant to immuno-therapy targets. 
  • Present literature reviews and bioinformatics findings to various stakeholders, including interdisciplinary teams and audiences. 
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD program based in the US in computational biology, cancer biology, cancer systems biology, statistics, engineering, immunology, or related sciences. 
  • Fluent in R programming language. Understand Git and version control. 
  • Experience in analyzing RNA-seq and scRNA-seq data. 
  • Familiarity with applying statistical and/or machine learning methods, including ML/AI, to high dimensional datasets is a plus.
  • Experience writing pipelines which abstracts several parameters is an advantage.
This intern position is located either remotely or on our Hayward, CA Campus 
• All applicants must be actively enrolled in an accredited academic program for Fall 
2026.
• As an Arcus intern, you will be employed as a temporary hourly employee.
• Interns will be paid hourly, less payroll deductions and all required tax withholdings.

Physical Requirements
• Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds. • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts. • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls. • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job. • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. • Ability to lift heavy objects, possibly weighing up to 50 pounds. • Position may require repetitive motion.
