Job Summary:

We have an opening for a motivated Senior Scientist within the Translational Science group. The Senior Scientist will be responsible for performing histopathology assays and development and execution of digital image analysis to support our preclinical and exploratory clinical programs for biomarker discovery. The ideal candidate will have experience successfully developing and applying digital image analysis algorithms that are predictive of clinical response to a therapeutic agent, ideally in the field of oncology.  The role requires demonstrated expertise in histopathology, microscopy, tissue-based assay development (IHC/ISH/mIF), analysis, and data interpretation with an ability to integrate scientific and disease specific contexts. The successful candidate will have a well-established track record of performing digital image analysis utilizing one of the commercially available software (HALO, QuPath, Visiopharm or other) while also implementing immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), and fluorescent multiplex assays. The ideal applicant should also have experience working with pathologists to develop appropriate scoring methods, and familiarity with multiplex chromogenic and fluorescent IHC assays and quantification methodology.

Candidates who are passionate about working at the interface of digital pathology, histology, and oncology are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have a proactive and collaborative work style that can work across cross-functional teams, exceptional troubleshooting skills, a positive attitude, outstanding attention to detail, and an interest in contributing to the field of translational sciences and tissue diagnostics. Strong communication/presentation skills, work ethic, and have demonstrated the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are required.

Job Responsibilities:
The job duties and responsibilities for this Sr. Scientist position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform digital image analysis of clinical histopathology images stained with singleplex or multiplex IHC/IF and RNAScope assays to identify features predictive of patient outcomes/ clinical response to an oncology therapeutic.
  • Develop AI models for cell and tissue detection and to extract quantitative features from histology stain (H&E) and validated multiplex assays.  Assist in improvement of efficient analysis workflows for different types of tissues and images.
  • Provide digital pathology support to enable integrated translational strategies, including patient selection, pharmacodynamics, mechanism of action/resistance, prognostic, and other clinically relevant biomarker applications.
  • Evaluate image analysis software tools and validate software performance for biomarker detection and tissue characterization.
  • Develop chromogenic and immunofluorescent multiplex IHC/IF/ISH assays for various preclinical, clinical and exploratory biomarker programs.
  • Collaborate with biomarker and preclinical research leads to build assays with clinical applications in mind.
  • Perform data analysis using commercially available statistical software
  • Presenting data regularly at project team meetings and communicating effectively across functional teams (pharmacodynamics, biomarker ops, biology, etc)

Qualifications:
  • Candidates with a MS degree and 7+ years of experience or Ph.D. degree and 4+ years of experience in a relevant scientific field such as biomedical sciences, oncology, immuno-oncology, preferably in an industry setting are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in drug development and background in translational research in preclinical and clinical settings, including analyzing histology samples for predictive value in oncology studies.
  • Experience using advanced digital image analysis software and spatial imaging platforms (AI-based tissue analysis, software such as Indica Labs HALO, Visiopharm, QuPath, digital slide scanning, multiplex spectral imaging, Akoya Opal systems including Polaris/PhenoImagerHT).
  • Experience with multiplex IHC/IF assay development using different automated staining platforms (such as DAKO, Leica BOND, etc), performing brightfield/fluorescent whole slide scanning using Panoramic Midi II/Phenoimager HT.
  • Ideal candidate is a self-starter and a motivated individual who can work independently as well as in a team.
  • Experience in scripting languages such as Python is a plus.
