VP, CIO
Description
- Lead the development of a vision and related strategy designed to modernize AppFolio’s internal technology and business systems in furtherance of our long and short-term strategic objectives of collaboration with key functional leaders across the company (finance, marketing, sales, product, engineering, customer service and more).
- Assess AppFolio’s existing internal technology vision and strategy, including our technology governance framework, information technology, and business systems; deeply understand our company and strategic objectives; develop cross-functional relationships to engender trust and confidence.
- Lead AppFolio’s existing information technology and business systems teams to modernize, evolve, and transform our internal systems across all functions.
- Manage the efficient, scalable, cross-functional implementation, operationalization, and administration of AppFolio’s internal technology vision and strategy, including our technology governance program and roadmap; develop key program metrics to provide visibility into progress, risk management, and areas of opportunity.
- Optimize technology investments by evolving and modernizing AppFolio’s internal technology vision and strategy, including our technology governance approach and practices across the business, as well as all related policies and procedures and risk management strategies, to ensure our internal systems are contemporary, durable, reliable, and efficiently configured.
- Partner with the Chief Information Security Officer and Data Governance and Privacy Counsel to ensure our systems and information are secure, private, accurate, available, and accessible.
- Develop and implement appropriate training and awareness programs for employees in furtherance of the foregoing.
- Regularly report on the foregoing status to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.
- The role reports directly to AppFolio’s Chief Legal Officer in Santa Barbara, California. This highly visible and cross-functional position will require deep knowledge and understanding of AppFolio’s strategic vision and how each team works to execute against that vision. The ability to help educate and train while building relationships and the trust and confidence of the business is imperative and key to the program's success.
- Remote work is possible, but we expect regular travel to Santa Barbara and/or other AppFolio office hubs (San Diego, Dallas) to facilitate productive relationships and collaboration.

- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Information Science, Computer Science, or related field.
- 10-15+ years experience in an IT or MIS senior leadership role in a fast-paced scaling organization with a minimum of 5 years in data strategy.
- Minimum seven years of progressive leadership building diverse teams.
- Experience within the SaaS and Tech industry.
- In-depth knowledge including IT, client services firm overseeing networking, computing, information management, cybersecurity, technology security, risk management, customization/coding and integrations, standard business operations platforms, and technology user training.
- Highly proficient in contract negotiations, contract maintenance, and vendor management.
- Strong understanding and exposure to the real estate industry, particularly in the context of SaaS solutions.
- Experience with Google Suite, Okta, Salesforce, WorkDay, NetSuite, Marketo, Snowflake and Mulesoft, among other business systems.
