About the Role

AppFolio Tenant Screening delivers Screening & Verification products to the company’s property management customers, helping them efficiently convert applicants into qualified residents. 

The Screening Operations teams ensure that AppFolio’s screening reports are accurate and assist consumers when they wish to dispute information on their reports. 

As the Director of Screening Operations, you will be responsible for leading a team of managers to foster a high performance culture, forecasting headcount needs, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures, managing vendor relationships, and using data to drive improvements to our policies, procedures, and technology systems. 

This role can be remote with a commitment to work Pacific Standard Time business hours. 

What you’ll do:

  • Set and communicate annual & quarterly OKRs; motivate your teams to achieve them
  • Accurately forecast staffing needs and ensure hiring & training plans are in place to deliver an exceptional experience to customers & consumers
  • Provide recommendations on the organizational structure for the Public Records & Consumer Relations teams
  • Quickly become an expert on your teams’ policies and procedures to provide proactive oversight, monitoring for weaknesses and associated risks; define, communicate, and execute action plans to mitigate those risks
  • Work closely with Data Analytics to uncover actionable insights that improve the quality and/or efficiency of our Screening product/operations
  • Own and develop relationships in the Credit Bureau & Public Records vendor ecosystems; (re)negotiate agreements, manage RFP processes, and hold vendors accountable to SLAs
  • Lead strategic initiatives relating to AppFolio’s responsibilities under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and strategic vendor contracts

Who we’re looking for:

  • Process management: Looks for ways to improve processes to maximize quality & efficiency. Knows how to organize people and activities. Sets clear objectives & measures. Can simplify complex processes. Is willing to re-engineer processes from scratch. 
  • Strategic ownership: Capacity to consider how the team will need to evolve over the next 3, 12, and 36 months and ability to forecast headcount & resourcing needs accordingly.
  • Attention to detail: Does not let important details slip.
  • Analytic aptitude - Can dig into detailed data and ask the right questions to derive actionable insights.
  • Coaching skills: Sets a high bar for performance & coaches team to exceed expectations. Communicates the bigger picture and prepares the team for the future. 


  • 6-10 years of experience managing complex teams for a business with significant compliance requirements (e.g., background screening, lending, payments, etc.).
  • Deep knowledge of Salesforce & Excel; working knowledge of Tableau
  • BA/BS degree
