We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join a cross-functional product development group focused on enhancing our Appfolio Property Manager product. These teams own the features that allow our customers to efficiently respond to maintenance needs resulting in safe and healthy housing for residents. 


This role is open to full-stack and AI/ML engineers. We’re ideally targeting someone with an ML background who can bring end-to-end ML lifecycle experience to the team and contribute strategic direction, data modeling, and hands on support for the Maintenance performer. 

 

Your impact:

  • Craft strategy in alignment to broader company strategy and objectives
  • Research, share and recommend new technologies and trends
  • Develop scalable, robust, and simple solutions to solve complex business problems
  • Implement new features and optimize existing ones to support SaaS scalability and stability
  • Leverage agile practices in to encourage collaboration, prioritization, and iterative development at a rapid pace
  • Use test-driven development, code reviews, and continuous integration to deliver high-quality software, and rapidly fix bugs as they come up
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment by incorporating feedback from peers, other teams, and other functional roles

Qualifications 

  • 10+ years of experience developing web-based applications, preferably in a SaaS environment
  • Extensive understanding of the principles of scalable system design
  • Experience authoring and delivering strategic initiatives involving multiple engineering teams
  • Analytical, organizational, and time-management skills with high attention to detail
  • Mastery of iterative software development practices such as Agile
  • Experience solving customer problems without a roadmap
  • Daily user of AI tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Gemini etc
     

ML Qualifications

  • AI/ML knowledge or experience (evaluating and deploying models in production)
  • AI Agents knowledge (LangChain, LangGraph, OpenAI API, LLMs, and prompting)
  • Workflow technologies knowledge or experience (Temporal)

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $184,000-$230,000.

The actual base salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, education, experience, etc.

Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
