Job Title: Senior Analyst, Actuary (ACO)

About the Role:
We are seeking an Actuarial Senior Analyst who thrives on independent thinking and enjoys building models and analyses from the ground up. This role offers the opportunity to leverage your healthcare and actuarial expertise to contribute to our leading position in the value-based care revolution. Reporting to the Manager, Actuary, this position is open for remote work.

What You'll do:

  • Actuarial Modeling: Develop actuarial models for forecasting, reserving, shared savings calculations, provider performance analysis, innovative clinical solutions analysis, and ACO performance optimization.
  • M&A and Business Development: Conduct actuarial assessments for potential M&A targets and support corporate development strategy.
  • P&L Owner: Assist in managing all financial aspects of the company's ACO programs, including helping to manage the P&L of a major LOB of a public company.
  • Forefront of VBC: Become an ACO expert in multiple programs (ACO REACH and MSSP) at a leading VBC company, analyze and develop strategy for new and proposed ACO rules, and assist with crafting policy proposals.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Develop numerous ad hoc analyses relating to benchmarking, contract optimization, investor relations, risk adjustment, etc.
  • Audit and Reporting: Identify, develop, and document audit findings, presenting results to key stakeholders to inform strategic decisions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with ACO, Analytics, Data, Finance, M&A, Medical Economics, and Operations teams.
  • Cost Trend Evaluation: Analyze healthcare utilization patterns and cost trends to identify areas for improvement and opportunities for cost savings.

Qualifications:

  • FSA or ASA credentials or near attainment of ASA credentials.
  • 3+ years of experience in actuarial roles.
  • 1+ years of experience in VBC or VBC adjacent roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Intermediate knowledge of SQL.
  • Understanding of the actuarial continuum (both pricing/forecasting and valuation/reserving).
  • Proficiency and desire to build actuarial models from scratch.
  • Comfortable working on a small team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with ACOs.
  • Experience working on the provider side of healthcare.
  • Deep knowledge of Medicare.
  • VBA knowledge and ability to write macros.
  • Knowledge working with PowerBI.
  • Champion of independent critical thinking, unafraid to challenge the status quo and explore innovative solutions.

Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions: 

  • This position has the option to be remotely based in the U.S.  Conversely, candidates can choose to work in a hybrid fashion and work through the Alhambra, CA or New York City, NY Astrana Health offices. 
  • The hiring manager for this role sits in the Eastern Time Zone, while many of the business partners work on Pacific Time and others on Eastern Time.
  • The total compensation target pay range for this role is: $100,000 – $140,000. The salary range represents our national target range for this role.
