Financial Manager, Netherlands

 

We are looking for a Financial Manager to join Apex Group in our expanding Netherlands business. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Client Director (Finance) on a range of client portfolios. Ultimately the Client Director is accountable for the delivery to the clients and you will play a pivotal role in supporting them, through your timely and organised running of the portfolios by your team. You can expect to manage a team of Financial and Support Officers to achieve your company goals. Your team will be a mix of junior, mid-level and senior financial professionals.

We’ll expect you to develop, motivate and lead your team, helping them grow in our organisation. You’ll be expected to leverage, where appropriate, wider Group resources available to you.

As well as team management, you can expect to be responsible for planning the client service delivery team in cooperation with the Legal Manager, as well as daily business operations.

In your operational capacity you can expect to have responsibility for:

  • Day-to-day operations and with the support of others, the preparation/review of quarterly VAT returns and annual tax returns, regulatory reporting, periodical financial reports, annual financial statements, ad hoc reporting and other accounting tasks.
  • Acting as personal director of client companies, including initiating, organizing, attending and chairing client board meetings.
  • Resource planning and ensuring client deadlines are met.
  • Assisting clients on accounting, bookkeeping, tax and other financial reporting matters.
  • Acting in the capacity as back-up for the Client Director Finance for all finance team matters.
  • Authorization of payments, cash management, as well as responsible for AML transaction monitoring.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and regulations, in particular the Act on the Supervision of Trust Offices Act (WTT) and Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft).
  • Contributing to the expansion of (existing) client portfolio. Assist to achieve commercial objectives, including the ability to act as an adviser on financial matters.
  • Maintaining contacts with consultants and clients and proactively expanding these, and to be able to represent APEX externally.
  • Compliance and monitoring of internal procedures.

 

As a team manager, you’ll also be:

 

  • Managing, guiding, assessing and motivating finance team members in a constructive manner and coordinating and planning activities within the team in consultation with the Client Director (Finance).
  • Involved in the appraisal process of team members and staff recruitment.
  • Assessing whether documents can be signed in its capacity as director, as the company interest being considered.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Skills Required:

  • Extensive experience at manager level in a corporate and/or financial services industry or an accounting firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, and reporting standards and principles, including Dutch GAAP. (A basic understanding of IFRS is also preferred).
  • Knowledge of all relevant and applicable laws and regulations, including Act on the Supervision of Trust Offices Act (WTT) and Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft).
  • Knowledge of Dutch law (Titel 9 BW 2).
  • General knowledge of tax compliance reporting (CIT and VAT)
  • Knowledge of Fund and/or Real Estate accounting and reporting is an advantage.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree, in disciplines such as: Business Administration, Accounting, Economics or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
  • Ability to view issues with client companies from a more comprehensive point of view ("helicopter view") and to make connections with other disciplines.
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English, both oral and written is preferred.

 

As a team manager:

 

  • Know how to motivate/coach team members and monitor their objectives and deliverables.
  • Experience managing the operational running of a team.
  • Experience in fostering a strong, positive team culture where team members feel they can come and do their best work.
