We have an immediate opening for a Deputy Chief of Staff to join one of our executive teams, preferably based in Washington D.C.

You’ll often have the opportunity to work across disciplines, including corporate communication, crisis and issues, sustainability and corporate responsibility, media relations and stakeholder engagement, and digital/social media.


  • Independently manages the external profile of one of APCO’s executives, serving as the main point of contact for their partnership organizations and any external speaking events, etc., including:
    • Manages press inquiries and interview requests, draft responses in conjunction with company marketing team as needed
    • Integrates digital and social media tactics with overall executive thought leadership strategy- develop and execute a complete social media strategy across LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, and serve as a ghost writer for the executive’s articles, etc.
    • Review, edit and rewrite all relevant messages and content for the executive (both for external and internal audience) to maintain the executive’s voice
  • Work with client teams to draft content in their areas of expertise and/or that the executive needs to send out on behalf of clients
  • Works with executive and executive office team (including Chief of Staff, Executive assistant and others) to manage key follow ups from both external engagements (ie conferences, etc.) and new business development meetings
  • Supports new business development, including writing proposal content, attending new business development meetings with the executive, and coordinating RFP responses across the firm.
  • Keeps fellow executive office team members appropriately informed and involved in projects; ensure projects/events run smoothly, and help other team members as necessary, and use the executive’s LinkedIn profile to ensure key contacts stay informed of the latest APCO news, etc. 


  • At least 5-7 years of corporate communications/PR experience/digital expertise; agency experience and prior executive social media management experience a big plus
  • Superior writing skills with experience developing op-eds, interview content, keynote presentations, blog posts, other external and internal communications
  • Media relations experience developing and executing both traditional and digital media strategies, including media pitching, and analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or other related field
  • Excellent client and interpersonal skills; ability to manage independent client relationships and communicate effectively
  • Possesses an entrepreneurial spirit, a solution-oriented attitude and a growth mindset
  • Well-versed in current events and headline news at local, national, and international levels
  • Exemplary research, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and junior team members, as well as prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft and Adobe applications, media databases and social media networks (priority on Linkedin, Twitter, and Facebook)
  • Strong presentation skills
