Consultant, Strategic Communications

APCO Worldwide - a leading global communications and strategy consultancy - is seeking a consultant to join its Greater China team in Beijing. As a Consultant, you will lead and support project work and collaborate closely with colleagues at all levels and around the world on research, writing and communications problem-solving. You’ll have the opportunity to work across disciplines, including corporate communication, crisis and issues, sustainability and corporate responsibility, media relations and stakeholder engagement, and digital/social media, and across sectors, including but not limit to healthcare, technology, consumer goods, finance, etc..



  • Lead day-to-day client communication by providing strategic advice related to strategic communications account work, with assistance from more junior and senior colleagues
  • Manage several small accounts or projects, serving as account lead and/or primary point of contact with support and supervision as needed
  • Manage client expectations, earning their trust and confidence through proactive account management and satisfied services to maintain and grow client relationships
  • Produces high-quality, client-ready deliverables, such as press materials, messaging toolkits, issues analysis memo, executive briefing materials, market research report, social media strategies, stakeholder engagement strategy and advocacy communications, often under tight deadlines
  • Contribute to projects that involve communications pillars by providing media resources and insights, solid digital and social media skills, and content development capabilities


  • Effectively manage project programing, including account staffing, billable hours, and budget control
  • Work with supervisors in financial forecasting for client budgets


  • Prepare customized credential packages for prospective clients, highlighting APCO capabilities, relevant case studies, and high-level industry notes and observations (requiring minimal revisions)
  • Support business development activities, including research, developing new business proposals, and participating in pitch presentations
  • Lead on small to mid-size new business pitches


  • Provide necessary guidance to junior team members
  • Assist in planning and providing trainings and sharing sessions related to communications


Requirements & qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited college or university preferably in Public Administration, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, International Affairs, Business Administration or related fields; Master’s degree holder preferred



  • Minimum of 4 - 6 years’ PR / strategic communications, public affairs or media experience in business strategy, communications, journalism or at a multi-national corporation or non-profit organizations
  • Previous experience developing and supporting communications (corporate communications, issues management, internal communications, crisis communications, etc.) plans across various industries (healthcare, technology, FMCG sectors preferably) and subject areas

Core Skills:

  • Solid project management experience and a proven ability to manage projects, stakeholders and teams of both junior and senior colleagues in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate exceptional writing and analytical skills, including experience writing strategic plans, messaging and press materials and the ability to write both strategically and creatively under tight deadlines
  • Sound understanding of media landscape in China and globally, with strong relations with key media in China
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills; can-do attitude; collaborative team plater  
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, media databases and social media networks

Languages: Native Chinese; Excellent English in speaking and writing
