About the Role

Blackboard is seeking an exceptional sales leader to lead our New Sales organization focused on Blackboard LMS and Blackboard Point Solutions across North America. This leader will be responsible for building and executing a high-performance strategy that drives new logo acquisition, competitive displacement, and market share growth across higher education institutions.

 

As Vice President of New Sales, you will lead a team of enterprise sales professionals responsible for expanding Blackboard’s presence across colleges and universities. You will develop and execute a clear strategy to generate pipeline, win new institutional customers, and position Blackboard as the platform of choice for the modern learning environment.

 

This role reports to the Executive Vice President of Global Markets and plays a critical role in accelerating Blackboard’s growth and momentum in the higher education market.

 

Responsibilities

 

Sales Leadership and Strategy

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team focused exclusively on new logo acquisition for Blackboard LMS and Blackboard Point Solutions
  • Own and execute the strategy to expand Blackboard’s footprint across higher education institutions in North America
  • Drive aggressive pipeline development and competitive displacement strategies against other LMS platforms
  • Establish scalable processes for prospecting, account targeting, and opportunity development
  • Create and manage regional and institutional growth strategies that maximize new market opportunities

 

Revenue and Pipeline Execution

  • Achieve new sales bookings targets and revenue growth objectives
  • Build, monitor, and manage a strong pipeline that consistently supports sales targets
  • Forecast revenue accurately and maintain disciplined pipeline management within CRM
  • Partner with marketing and sales development to generate high-quality demand and pipeline coverage

 

Strategic Customer Engagement

  • Develop executive-level relationships with university leadership including CIOs, Provosts, and academic leadership
  • Lead strategic deal cycles involving complex enterprise software decisions
  • Represent Blackboard in high-profile customer engagements, industry conferences, and public forums
  • Identify opportunities to position Blackboard as a strategic technology partner for institutions

 

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Product, Marketing, Solutions Engineering, and Customer Success to ensure alignment on market strategy
  • Provide market feedback to product leadership to influence innovation and roadmap priorities
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless transition from sales to implementation and customer success

 

Team Development

  • Coach and mentor enterprise sales leaders in complex solution selling and executive relationship development
  • Establish performance metrics and operational rigor across the sales organization
  • Build a culture of accountability, competitiveness, and customer focus
  • Develop future sales leaders within the organization

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • 15+ years of enterprise software sales experience with a strong preference for higher education technology
  • 10+ years of sales leadership experience managing enterprise sales teams
  • Demonstrated success driving new logo growth in competitive enterprise software markets
  • Experience leading complex enterprise deals with multiple stakeholders and long sales cycles
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to build credibility with senior institutional leadership
  • Proven ability to build pipeline, forecast accurately, and drive consistent revenue performance
  • Strong collaboration skills across product, marketing, and services organizations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Technology, or a related field
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

 

Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • Experience selling Learning Management Systems (LMS) or academic technology platforms
  • Deep familiarity with the higher education technology landscape
  • Existing relationships with higher education institutions across North America
  • Experience displacing incumbent enterprise platforms

The expected salary range for this position is $218,400 CAD - $225,000 CAD. The range reflects base salary only and does not include additional compensation such as sales incentives or benefits. Placement within the pay range will depend on a variety of factors, such as experience, skills, internal parity, and location.
