Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) Educator/Childcare Assistant 

JOB SUMMARY:  

  • The Childcare Teacher will work with the Director of Nursing to adapt and implement educational lesson plans and activities.
  • They will provide quality interactions, room environments, and educational programming in their room.
  • They will provide classroom management and support training initiatives as they relate to programming.
  • They will work within guidelines of the PPEC.
  • The Teacher will ensure the classroom is following best practice standards for a high-quality early childhood experience. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:  

  • Provides exceptional quality care.
  • Seeks to provide professional and courteous service to the children and their families.
  • Acts as a role model for other team members.
  • Promotes and maintains confidentiality in all situations and interactions.
  • Provides guidance and supervision to team members regarding curriculum and teaching with a positive approach.
  • Works as a team player and works effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Conducts sound teaching instruction and utilizes appropriate established guidelines for learning and lesson plans.
  • Utilizes age-appropriate guidelines and information to foster independence and advancement of developmental levels.
  • Refers inquiries to the appropriate resource and keeps Director and/or Program Coordinator informed in advance of all programming and curriculum needs.
  • Performs multiple tasks and can prioritize these tasks appropriately.
  • Able to be flexible with changes that occur throughout the day including staffing levels and assisting in providing non-skilled care when requested.
  • Handles emergent situations safely while remaining calm.
  • Reports situations, special needs, or problems of individual children immediately to Site DON or designee.
  • Documents appropriate information in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes proper procedures for all care/direction.
  • Implements the daily program, curriculum and lesson plan for the assigned classroom.
  • Ensures engagement between staff and children during play and other activities.
  • Prepares materials for implementation of curriculum in advance.
  • Communicates professionally with children, families, and co-workers.
  • Coordinates instruction for the children as directed by the physician, parent, therapist, according to the plan of treatment and care plans.
  • Ensures all educational and instruction judgments are made based on holistic aspects of care of the child.
  • Seeks advice and assistance if needed.
  • Maximizes inclusion activities/programs for each child focusing on social skills and behavior needs while coordinating educational goals with nursing goals.
  • Follows all policy and procedures implemented by the PPEC as applicable to the job or duties assigned and in relation to the employee handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and written in a clear, concise, and easily understood manner.
  • Child Care and/or Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Exhibit leadership and organization skills.
  • Current negative Tuberculosis skin test (PDD) required.
  • Current CPR (Basic Life Support) required.
  • A High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Daycare/Preschool Teaching Experience


Pay Range: $40,000-$42,000
