Data Scientist – Workforce Planning & Scheduling (Mortgage & Call Center Operations)

We are seeking a highly analytical and strategically minded Workforce Planning & Scheduling Data Scientist to lead strategic workforce planning across our mortgage and call center operations. This role is ideal for someone with deep experience in crew scheduling environments, who can apply similar optimization frameworks to drive efficiency, compliance, and performance in a high-volume, customer-facing business.
Role Overview:
You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, implementing and managing intelligent scheduling systems that dynamically align staffing with demand, improve sales coverage, and optimize call center responsiveness. This role will have a direct impact on revenue generation, customer satisfaction, and operational scalability. The ideal candidate will blend domain expertise in workforce management with strong technical skills in data analysis, modeling, and scheduling automation.
Responsibilities:
- Design shift schedules and crew rotations that maximize productivity while adhering to compliance, licensing, and labor regulations.
- Architect and implement optimization models tailored to mortgage and call center workflows, incorporating constraints such as licensing, skill sets, shift preferences, and regulatory compliance.
- Design scheduling strategies that maximize loan officer availability during peak lead times, ensuring high pullthrough and conversion rates.
- Apply state-of-the-art techniques on constraint-based optimization, linear/mixed integer optimization, fatigue modeling, skill-based routing to mortgage and call center workflows.
- Develop predictive models for staffing needs based on loan volume forecasts, lead flow, historical trends, and marketing campaigns.
- Ensure all scheduling practices comply with federal/state labor laws, licensing requirements, and internal policies.
- Develop dashboards and analytics tools to monitor schedule adherence, utilization, SLA compliance, and staffing efficiency.
- Use data-driven insights to continuously refine scheduling strategies and improve outcomes.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations and Technology teams to align workforce plans with business goals and seasonal trends.
- Partner with the Technology team to integrate real-time optimization, predictive analytics, and automated scheduling workflows.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in workforce optimization, crew scheduling, or operations planning in high-complexity environments (e.g., airlines, hospitals, BPOs).
- Fluency in SQL and Python for data manipulation, modeling, and automation.
- Hands-on experience with optimization solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX, AMPL, Google OR-Tools, or similar.
- Strong proficiency in scheduling algorithms, constraint-based optimization, and workforce management systems.
- Experience in mortgage or call center operations is a strong plus.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Expertise with mixed-integer linear programming, crew scheduling and, building large scale optimization models.
- Experience with AI/ML-driven forecasting and scheduling tools.
- Ability to translate operational needs into technical solutions and vice versa.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, data-driven environment with cross-functional teams.

Similar positions located outside of Colorado will not necessarily receive the same compensation. **
Compensation
The annual compensation for this position generally ranges between $150,000 – $250,000.
