POSITION OVERVIEW     
The Associate Teacher reports directly to the English Language Learning Coordinator The position is an hourly full-time, entry-level teaching role with advancement potential to a Lead Teacher Role. As an Associate Teacher, you will receive extensive professional development from experienced teachers, talented school leaders, and program administrators in a unique international residential high school community.     
   
JOB OVERVIEW     
  • Assist in planning and implementing weekly afterschool support sessions for boarding students, including lesson planning, under the supervision and direction of the English Language Learning Coordinator (ELLC). 
  • Create a safe, welcoming space that values language, culture and individual traditions for students and other family members.
  • Work both individually and in groups with students during instruction/learning.
  • Actively lead learning experiences that promote literacy, science, math and language concepts in a residential setting.
  • Actively assist in the monitoring of students’ academic progress and maintaining record of students’ interests, talents, skills, and opportunities for growth.
  • Actively plan and prepare the learning environment to support the overall development of students.
  • Teach students self-help skills and ways to create their own success through better study habits, organizational habits, and punctuality.
  • Supervise classrooms on an as needed basis when the ELLC is not present.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in other ways as requested.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and cooperative working relationships with other professionals.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and recommended training programs.
  • Support the mission and goals of the school and programs.
  • Set a professional example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by teachers and/or administration.
  • Follow all Amerigo Education guidelines for health, safety, supervision and the personal rights of students to ensure that they have a safe place to learn. 
  • Build strong relationships with students.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS     
  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Ability to support learners in after school hours.  
  • Flexible scheduling is possible, but weekly evening hours are expected, typically Monday through Thursday until 7PM.   
  • A desire to enter or to grow within the educational industry.  
  • At least one year of experience working with students in an educational setting. 
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work with a team.  
  • Willingness to learn and take professional direction.  
Bonus if you have:   
  • Teacher Certification; Enrollment in Teacher Certification program; TESOL Certification 
  • Previous experience working with middle and high school aged students.  
  • Previous experience working in a residential community.  
  • Previous experience working with international students.  
  • Previous experience working with English language learners.
