JOB OVERVIEW
The Regional Manager of Homestay leads the homestay strategy, field operations, and quality of Amerigo’s program across multiple California school communities. This is a fieldheavy, relationshipdriven role requiring consistent onsite presence at partner schools and community events, as well as routine travel between school communities.

This role is responsible for building and maintaining a strong network of high-quality Host Families, managing a team of Local Homestay Coordinators (independent contractors), and ensuring a positive student experience throughout the school year. This role does not provide academic support; it works closely with campus teams on student issues that intersect with housing and homestay life. The Regional Manager will work from a partner school as a home base and travel regularly across California-based campuses.

 

A critical function of this role is Host Family recruitment and capacity building. The Regional Manager is responsible for developing and executing the recruitment strategy, conducting direct outreach, managing contracting, safety and documentation workflows, and maintaining Host Family capacity to meet enrollment needs.

 

This role owns student placement decisions and Host Family moves, and partners closely with campus leaders to support student success; disciplinary decisions remain with the Director of Campus Operations (DCO) and campus leadership. 

The Regional Manager collaborates with the Director of Campus Operations (DCO), partner schools, Local Coordinators, Marketing, Admissions, Finance, People & Culture, and the Student Experience team. The role reports to the Senior Director, Operations (SDO).

 

Early Success Indicators (first 90 days):

  • Initial Local Coordinator structure in place; actively hiring
  • Active Host Family pipeline underway in each school community, supported by visible local outreach
  • Placement capacity plan defined, with readiness for Fall student placements clearly demonstrated
     

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Host Family Recruitment/Management

  • Lead the Host Family recruitment strategy for all California campuses
  • Conduct community-based Host Family outreach (school events, local organizations, referrals), building trust and credibility until the Local Coordinator team is fully staffed
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of high-quality Host Families
  • Oversee Host Family sourcing, screening, onboarding, contracting, safety documentation, and retention
  • Ensure required home visits are completed; provide backup coverage if Local Coordinators are unavailable
  • Manage Host Family contracts, payments, and compliance documentation
  • Maintain Host Family inventory, capacity, retention, and quality
  • Build relationships with Host Families to promote retention and program consistency
     

Quality judgment in practice includes:

  • Knowing when to say no to a Host Family that is willing but not the right fit for a specific student
  • Balancing placement urgency with student wellbeing, even when timelines are tight

 

People Leadership & Management

  • Hire, train, coach, and manage Local Homestay Coordinators (independent contractors)
  • Grow the LC team network (projected 6-10 contractors in 26-27)
  • Set expectations and goals for Host Family recruitment, placement timeliness, responsiveness, and documentation completion
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure accountability for results
  • Conduct evaluations and manage contract terminations as needed
  • Foster a culture of feedback, learning, and iteration, using data and results to improve outcomes.

 

Student Experience/Issue Resolution

  • Oversee the quality of student placements with Host Families
  • Make decisions regarding initial placements and placement moves
  • Partner with the DCO, Academic Director/ELLC, Student Support Managers, and the Student Experience team on whole-student issues that include the homestay experience
  • Lead Homestay-specific onboarding and orientation for students
  • Track student satisfaction trends and ensure issues are addressed in collaboration with campus leaders
  • Available for after-hours emergency response duties involving Homestay issues
  • Escalation clarity: This role leads housing placement decisions and executes approved moves. Academic and disciplinary decisions remain with campus leadership and the DCO

 

Partner School Collaboration

  • Work directly with partner schools to recruit Host Families from school communities
  • Collaborate with the DCO to support healthy partner school relationships
  • Provide clear, periodic updates related to homestay capacity, placements, and trends
  • Maintain a visible, onsite presence to build trust and credibility

 

Operations, SOPs & Reporting

  • Partner with the SDO to ensure SOPs are consistently followed and provide feedback for updates and improvements
  • Track and report on key operational metrics, including:
    • Host Family inventory and capacity
    • Placement counts
    • Issue logs and trends
    • Student satisfaction
    • Retention metrics (student and Host Family)
    • Will be relied upon to continuously explore data and data tools to help the business improve on efficiency and effectiveness
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Admissions, and Finance on recruitment campaigns, admissions cycles, and payment/contract workflows
  • Identify and implement operational improvements across campuses

Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 5+ years of experience in education, operations, homestay/accommodations, hospitality, or related fields
  • Experience managing independent contractors or distributed teams
  • Strong understanding of Host Family or student accommodation programs
  • CRM experience (Salesforce preferred)
  • Experience operating heavily in excel
  • Experience with student safety, crisis decision-making, and documentation expectations
  • Ability to make decisions quickly in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends as needed

 

Preferred
 Experience working with international students

  • Experience in the study abroad or international education industry
