The Sr. Systems Engineer is a senior-level technical role responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments. This individual will lead by example as a highly technical expert with strong customer service, troubleshooting, and solution design skills. The role ensures the stability, scalability, and security of systems including Windows Servers, VMware, O365/M365, collaboration tools (Zoom, MS Teams), VDI platforms (Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop, AWS Workspaces, Secure Browser), and enterprise backup and disaster recovery systems.

This role also oversees monitoring, alerting, and observability practices to proactively maintain system health and quickly resolve issues. The Senior Systems Administrator / Engineer partners across IT and business teams to drive operational excellence, improve resiliency, and deliver an exceptional end-user experience.

Essential Functions

  • Provision, configure, and maintain enterprise systems including Windows Server, VMware, and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Azure).
  • Administer and support collaboration platforms such as O365/M365, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Lead design, deployment, and support of VDI technologies (Citrix, AVD, AWS Workspaces, Secure Browser).
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring data protection and compliance with business continuity objectives.
  • Implement and manage monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Datadog, Splunk, ThousandEyes) to ensure proactive detection and resolution of issues.
  • Provide Tier II/III escalation support for complex incidents, driving root cause analysis and long-term remediation.
  • Perform system upgrades, patching, and configuration changes while following structured change management processes.
  • Mentor and coach junior system administrators, providing technical oversight and ensuring task completion.
  • Maintain and improve documentation, configuration standards, and SOPs.
  • Collaborate with security teams to harden infrastructure, implement controls, and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Drive innovation by researching, evaluating, and recommending new tools, technologies, and automation opportunities.
  • Mentors and develops junior staff, building troubleshooting and solutioning capability within the team.
  • Acts as a trusted technical advisor to IT leadership for system-related strategy and improvements.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Technology or equivalent work experience required; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise system administration, including Microsoft domain environments.
  • Proven expertise with Windows Server administration, Active Directory (GPO, identity management), and VMware.
  • Strong background in O365/M365 administration, including Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint Online.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) including provisioning, security, and cost optimization.
  • Experience with VDI platforms (Citrix, AVD, AWS Workspaces, or similar).
  • Proficiency with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Familiarity with monitoring/observability platforms (SolarWinds, Datadog, Splunk, ThousandEyes, etc.).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with proven ability to partner across IT and business units.
  • Proactive, self-driven, and detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and structured change management practices preferred.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

Standard office environment with regular use of computers and office equipment. Ability to lift and carry 40+ lbs and terminate Cat6 cabling as needed.

Position Type / Hours of Work

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8am–5pm (flexible). After-hours or on-call availability required for escalations and critical support.
