Sr. Instructional Designer

Summary/Objective:
American Credit Acceptance (ACA) is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to join our Learning & Development team.
This role is ideal for an experienced learning professional who can lead the design and development of high-impact training. This person will build scalable learning programs, translate complex business needs into practical learning solutions, and help shape how training is designed, delivered, and maintained across the organization.
In this role, you will partner closely with leaders, facilitators, and subject matter experts to create engaging and effective learning experiences across eLearning, instructor-led, virtual, and blended formats. You will manage and optimize the Learning Management System to support the delivery, tracking, and ongoing maintenance of learning programs. You will also serve as a team resource by mentoring others, establishing design standards, and bringing strong judgment, organization, and leadership to complex training initiatives.
Essential Functions:
Instructional Design & Program Development
- Lead the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of high-quality training programs across eLearning, instructor-led, virtual, and blended formats
- Build and maintain large-scale, multi-part learning programs that are easy to update, scale, and sustain over time
- Design practical, engaging learning experiences that align with business goals, learner needs, and measurable outcomes
- Apply advanced instructional design principles and competency-based learning strategies to create effective development experiences
- Translate complex business, technical, compliance, or operational topics into clear, learner-friendly content
- Develop assessments, activities, job aids, and supporting materials that reinforce learning and on-the-job application
- Facilitate training sessions, especially for programs and courses developed within the role
Learning Management System (LMS) Leadership – Cornerstone
- Serve as a subject matter expert and primary administrator for the LMS Learning module
- Manage course builds, curricula, learning assignments, training records, user experience, and system functionality within the LMS
- Ensure learning programs are accurately deployed, maintained, and optimized within the system
- Build dashboards, reports, and learning structures that support visibility, tracking, and business decision-making
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and partner with IT, HR, and external vendors as needed
- Recommend and implement improvements that enhance the learner experience and strengthen operational efficiency
Strategy, Consultation & Business Partnership
- Partner with leaders and subject matter experts to identify performance needs and recommend the most effective learning solutions
- Lead the design of full learning programs and curriculum paths that support associate, leader, and business development
- Bring strong judgment to determine when training is the right solution and when other tools, resources, or process changes may be more effective
- Support the development of training strategies that are practical, scalable, and aligned to ACA’s priorities
- Write and maintain process documentation, design standards, and internal guides that support consistency across the training function
Mentorship, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Mentor and support other team members by sharing best practices, providing feedback, and helping elevate the quality of instructional work
- Establish and model strong standards for instructional design, facilitation, visual quality, and learning effectiveness
- Evaluate learning solutions using feedback, data, and performance measures; update content as business and learner needs evolve
- Stay current on instructional design trends, learning technologies, and development tools to continuously improve the function
- Contribute strong visual, graphic design, and training marketing instincts to help learning materials feel polished, engaging, and accessible

Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in instructional design, training development, or corporate learning in a professional or regulated environment
- 5+ years of experience developing eLearning using Articulate Storyline or similar authoring tools
- Demonstrated experience designing and managing large or complex learning programs from concept through implementation and ongoing maintenance
- Experience designing leadership development or competency-based learning programs
- Experience facilitating training in classroom and hybrid environments
- Experience supporting or administering a Learning Management System
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex or technical content
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Experience developing instructional videos and multimedia learning assets
- Advanced understanding of visual design and graphic best practices
- Experience writing process documentation, instructional guides, or internal standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Communications, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered in place of a degree
Technical Skills
Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Articulate Storyline or similar eLearning authoring tools
- Video development/editing tools such as Camtasia, Powtoon, or similar platforms
- LMS platforms
- Graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Cornerstone on Demand
- Experience in financial services, indirect auto, or another regulated industry
- Experience mentoring other instructional designers or serving as a senior team resource
- Past leadership experience is a plus
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. It is on-site, with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, and some schedule variations may be made as needed.
Travel:
This position will require 5% travel to other offices as needed.
