Description

AMDA is currently accepting resumes for part-time teaching positions for its daytime and evening Improvisation classes for all levels (Introductory level 1 to advanced level 4) and particular interest in instructors with combined Filmmaking and Improv experience to teach Improvisation on Film. 
Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching, honed from personal experience on a professional level and pedagogy of teaching at a college level.  
  • Primary Responsibilities:
    • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules
    • Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking
    • Evaluate the progress of students concerning educational matters and grading student work
    • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics both on the LMS platform (Canvas) and in-person
    • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas
    • Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member
    • Maintain accurate academic records
    • Consistent communication and accurate reporting to both students and supervisors
    • Contribution to school community, including:
    • Committee participation
    • Active engagement in required trainings and initiatives
    • Viewing student performances
    • Uphold AMDA’s core values of equity and inclusion in the classroom and commitment to an environment of student safety and support
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree (preferred) or Bachelor's degree (required) in a related field
  • Candidates should have relevant teaching experience in a higher education setting
  • Formal Improvisation training, professional credits, and solid knowledge of foundational improv: Spolin, Johnstone
  • Particularly interested in applicants with Filmmaking and Improv experience to teach Improvisation on Film
  • Leadership skills that emphasize collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation
  • Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints; to work effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning
  • Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches with use of technology
    • Experience with Canvas LMS preferred
  • Ability to use effective strategies to engage students
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in the classroom

 

Eligibility Requirements - Performance Credentials 
  • AMDA differentiates itself from other performing arts colleges by having students learn from "working faculty." Applicants must have performance experience within the industry; preference will be given to instructors with recent/current performance credits 
  • Experience with a variety of styles and periods is a plus  
  • Qualified applicants should submit cover letter and resume. Applicants with performing/professional resumes and teaching resumes are encouraged to submit both.  
Position Information: 
  • This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
  • Rate of pay $40-$60/Hourly
