AMDA is currently accepting resumes for part-time teaching positions for our Modern Dance Department at the New York City campus. 
 
AMDA is specifically seeking instructors with diverse experience teaching courses in Modern Dance.

Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Maintaining current knowledge in subject matter areas as it relates to:
    • Ability to teach courses in modern, postmodern, and contemporary modern dance 
    • Ability to teach modern improvisation and technique courses
    • Abreast of current industry trends
    • Ability to teach beginner/intermediate/advanced courses in at least one of the following styles: ballet, jazz, tap or theatre dance
  • Providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules
  • Creating and maintaining a student-centered environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking
  • Evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grading student work
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics both online and in-person
  • Fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member
  • Maintaining accurate academic records
  • Utilizing online classrooms and sustaining student engagement
  • Consistent communication and accurate reporting 
  • Contribution to school community, including:
    • Committee Participation
    • Active Engagement in required trainings and initiatives
    • Viewing student performances
  • Upholding AMDA’s core values of equity and inclusion in the classroom and commitment to an environment of student safety and support
 
Qualifications (This can be discussed and altered as needed - we can also break it out to Minimum Qualifications and Preferred if that is better for your team/department) 
  • Master's degree (preferred) or Bachelor's degree (required) in a related field; commensurate performance/professional experience may be considered
  • Candidates should have relevant teaching experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience with Canvas LMS preferred
  • An appreciation for the traditions of a performing arts academic setting
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches with the effective use of technology.
  • Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning
  • Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints; ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Have a commitment and sensitivity to, as well as an understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles
 
Eligibility Requirements - Performance Credentials 
  • AMDA differentiates itself from other performing arts colleges by having students learn from "working faculty." Applicants must have performance experience within the industry; preference will be given to instructors with recent/current performance credits
  • At least 5 years performing with a modern or contemporary modern dance company
  • Experience with a variety of styles and periods is a plus
 
Position Information: 
  • $40-60 per teaching hour
  • $35 per auxiliary hour
  • This position is a part time (less than 29 hours per week), in-person commitment. All candidates must reside in the New York area or be willing to relocate. AMDA will not provide a relocation package.
  • This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
