Job Summary:
Altamira Human Resources supports employees in over a dozen states nationwide, and several OCONUS locations which includes employees on shift work and in multiple time zones. While the HQ is in McLean, VA, including the Chief Human Capital Officer and Benefits Specialist, there is significant employee density in several locations including Denver, Colorado, Warrenton, VA and Dayton, Ohio. This role is expected to sit at one of the above locations and is not approved for full-time remote work.
Altamira has exceptional benefits which is a significant workload for the department to maintain, in addition to general questions from the employee population on a daily basis. The Human Resources Generalist will be the primary contact for email and phone inquiries to the HR department, as well as coordinating all new hire onboarding, with a goal to take over the job offer process as well. The HR Generalist will have primary responsibility for multiple assigned tasks, and backup responsibilities for the other HR Team members’ tasks. Since the HR Team works on a collaborative approach with priorities being set by the day and week to meet fast moving requirements, the HR Generalist will also take on new projects as needed to achieve department goals. This is a critical, creative, employee-facing role requiring administration and execution of many human resource programs including but not limited to: communicating policy interpretations and requirements to employees; processing salary, title, and other adjustments from managers, ensuring all approvals have been obtained; preparing notification letters to employees for managers to distribute; HRIS data entry; applicable filing and recording of critical documents; acting as a liaison from HR to Payroll to ensure that critical payments such as sign-on bonus, spot bonus, tuition reimbursement, and the like are paid on time; timely response to verifications of employment and/or security investigations for our primarily cleared population.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Engages with employees related to all inquiries, using company knowledge and policy acumen to interpret or answer questions quickly, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff, or escalating as needed.
- Partners with the Recruiting team on handoff of candidates from offer through onboarding.
- Responsible for new hire onboarding, including weekly orientation program, either live or virtual, as applicable.
- Communicates and coordinates with HR leadership on day-to-day tasking.
- Enters all data changes into HRIS as per HR process and approval policies, running reports out of HRIS to validate accuracy on a regular basis. Other reports ad hoc to support inquiries or support other HR team members.
- Maintains and updates employee personnel records while ensuring compliance with company policies and recordkeeping requirements.
- Secondary point-of-contact/Backup for HR Dept inquiries such as verifications of employment, background checks, onboarding, and new hire setup.
- Coordinates employee engagement initiatives and local company events.
- Assists with other HR projects and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Must be U.S. Citizen (company-wide requirement)
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
- Experience working in an HR team environment and ability to keep information confidential
- Experience maintaining ADP HRIS specifically is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Must quickly gain knowledge of HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance and support organizational goals.
- Intermediate skill in Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint
- Attention to detail and customer service focused
- Strong organizational skills and prioritization skills for multi-tasking
Standout Skills (but not required):
- Experience in Federal Contracting environment
- SHRM-CP or PHR a plus
- Experience with a multi-state environment
- Experience with Workday
