Description

The ALL 5'S Assistant Superintendent - Fencing supports the Superintendent in delivering safe, high-quality, and productive temporary and permanent fencing work. This role coordinates assigned crews, work areas, materials, equipment, inspections, public protection, and short-term planning; maintains accurate field information; and elevates risks affecting safety, quality, schedule, cost, or client commitments while developing toward full project responsibility.

Major Functions of Position

  • Promote ALL 5'S safety culture, enforce project requirements within assigned areas, participate in audits and inspections, and immediately elevate unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Verify approved layouts, current documents, materials, installation methods, inspections, and deficiency correction in support of the project quality plan.
  • Coordinate temporary and public-protection fencing, including jobsite fencing installed by methods suited to durability, flexibility, phasing, and site conditions; 6-foot and 8-foot standard or custom windscreen; right-of-way, channel, and high-visibility fencing; low-profile, trip-hazard-free fence bases; and required relocations and removals.
  • Coordinate permanent and security fencing, including chain-link and ornamental systems; gates, hardware, and finishes; and full enclosures for bike racks, equipment, and secure storage areas.
  • Verify fencing layout, limits, line and grade, posts, footings, anchorage, panels or fabric, tension, tie-ins, access, security, drainage, utilities, adjacent operations, and public routes.
  • Support custom fencing design and engineering by documenting field conditions, dimensions, interfaces, constructability needs, wind-loading considerations, and required submittals, permits, approvals, and inspections before installation.
  • Review scope, drawings, specifications, schedule, logistics, and project procedures; identify gaps or conflicts and confirm access, staging, equipment, materials, manpower, and predecessor work are ready.
  • Develop input for installation sequences and three-week look-ahead schedules covering temporary fence, windscreen, permanent systems, enclosures, relocations, and removals.
  • Coordinate assigned crews and monitor production, workmanship, staffing, material use, equipment, housekeeping, protection, and completion of daily commitments.
  • Track delivery and protected storage of posts, fabric, panels, ornamental components, gates, hardware, windscreen, and finishes; verify quantities, dimensions, condition, and installation readiness.
  • Conduct field walks, coordinate inspections, resolve routine conflicts, and route engineering, contractual, safety, quality, schedule, cost, or client risks through the Superintendent and project team.
  • Maintain daily reports, time and quantity records, layout redlines, as-built information, and field documentation; provide the Project Engineer with information needed for RFIs, submittals, procurement, and changes.
  • Communicate expectations to Foremen, craft employees, trade partners, and project staff; provide coaching and field direction within delegated authority and elevate performance or staffing matters requiring management action.
  • Maintain professional relationships with the client, General Contractor, Owner representatives, inspectors, and public stakeholders while routing contractual commitments through the Superintendent.
  • Coordinate punch-list, turnover, and warranty work; confirm corrections, inspections, as-builts, spare materials, warranties, and closeout records are complete and protect finished work through acceptance.
  • Capture field lessons learned and provide practical feedback to the Superintendent and preconstruction team.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Typically 2-5 years of commercial construction, fencing, or self-perform field experience with progressive responsibility.
  • Experience coordinating temporary or permanent fencing crews, materials, layouts, equipment, inspections, or defined work areas.
  • Working knowledge of temporary jobsite, right-of-way, channel, high-visibility, chain-link, ornamental, gate, windscreen, enclosure, public-protection, relocation, and removal work.
  • Ability to read fencing plans, specifications, schedules, submittals, details, engineered requirements, and RFIs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant field experience may be considered.
  • OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 certification preferred or required within a timeframe established by ALL 5'S.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to organize assigned fencing activities within the Superintendent's overall execution plan and changing daily priorities.
  • Ability to select and verify temporary fencing methods appropriate for durability, flexibility, windscreen, public exposure, and site conditions.
  • Working knowledge of fencing layout, posts, footings, anchorage, fabric or panels, gates, hardware, finishes, access, security, public protection, and trade interfaces.
  • Sound judgment to resolve routine field issues and recognize when safety, engineering, quality, schedule, cost, or client risk requires escalation.
  • Clear communication, documentation, follow-through, and developing leadership capability consistent with ALL 5'S values.

Working conditions

  • This is an exempt position and does not qualify for overtime pay.
  • Periodic travel may be required.
  • Work includes exposure to active jobsites and excessive heat and cold.

Physical requirements

  • Regularly required, in an 8-hour day, to sit for 5-8 hours and stand, walk, or move around for 1-4 hours.
  • Ability to lift 30-50 pounds occasionally and frequently stand, walk, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to access and navigate offices and jobsites, including ladders, scaffolds, trenches, manholes, uneven surfaces, and small access openings.
