Align Technology (”Align”) is a global medical device company engaged in the design, manufacture and marketing of the Invisalign® system, the pioneer and most technically advanced clear aligner system on the market, and of the iTero® intraoral scanners and services for orthodontic and restorative dentistry. Align’s innovative products help dental professionals achieve the clinical results they expect and deliver effective, cutting-edge dental options to their patients.
Align seeks a corporate technology and intellectual property attorney with 7+ years of experience in counseling a software research and development group and in transactions where technology itself is the subject of the business relationship. Prior experience must include drafting and negotiating licensing, SaaS, development, and sourcing software development. The candidate should have expertise in privacy and security (domestic and international), export controls, governmental contracting, open source licensing, payments law, technology business models, forms creation, and issues related to the protection and exploitation of intellectual property and data.
The ideal candidate will be an attorney who possesses deep, international, expertise in intellectual property and medical technology and exhibits intellectual flexibility and versatility, solid business acumen and judgment, and thoughtful, sensitive and persuasive interpersonal skills. As a member of the Align’s fast paced Strategic Commercial Affairs team, this person will also have strong drafting and negotiation experience and gravitas to influence and negotiate with key internal and external stakeholders. The position is based in Moscow, Russia and is part of a dynamic global legal team.
In this role, you will…
Ensure Align’s intellectual property rights arising from local development activities are protected to the fullest extent possible.
Demonstrated ability to implement software protection and ownership requirements based and experience with software development lifecycle.
Negotiate, draft, and review an extensive range of more complex contracts including research and development, technology licensing and joint development agreements, as well as supply, supplier quality and other agreements.
Provide legal advice to research and development and regulatory organizations on issues impacting research and development activities.
Advise and keep abreast of global legal and regulatory requirements to support research and development for medical technologies including PMAs/510(k)s. Ensure research and testing follows applicable laws and regulations and is adequately designed and appropriately prioritized to support validation and other objectives.
Develop strong, collaborative working relationships with other members of the Align Legal Department including regional lawyers supporting day-to-day activities of regional commercial organization.
Develop best in class practices including user friendly, visual, legal templates, policies, procedures, guidance documents, tools or training materials informed by continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with Align’s contract management process and other company policies and procedures.
Perform legal research and assist in other legal matters as and when required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
7+ years minimum post-bar experience, gained within a medical technology company in combination with a top-tier law firm representing medical technology.
Russian qualified in intellectual property law
LICENSES AND LANGUAGES
Fluency in spoken and written Russian and English.
