Summary:

The Lead Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the Al Jazeera Media Network’s (AJMN) network infrastructure. They will work in a fast paced highly collaborative team and will resolve network failures, security attacks and outages etc. They will perform activities, such as remote support, configuration and maintenance of network/security solutions.

The Lead Network Engineer is an advanced technical staff member responsible for the adoption and assimilation of both new technologies and the integration and optimization of existing network infrastructure. They operate as a high level internal reference point for all network-related issues and functions as a mentor to other team members.

In addition to knowledge of network infrastructure the Lead Network Engineer is expected to make meaningful contributions to all areas of AJMN’s technology infrastructure, including the Data Center, Security, Systems and Broadcast technologies and services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead multiple Network Engineering initiatives and projects consisting of design and development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, analysis, testing, and integration.
• Evaluate and select hardware and software products, implement and integrate these products into comprehensive solutions meeting company’s business requirements.
• Provide specialized technical expertise in researching and resolving complex technology network infrastructure problems which may involve coordination of hardware and software vendor support.
• Advise team members on procedures, techniques, and requirements to insure maximum performance and availability of the infrastructure. Recommend areas for improvement in both processes and systems.
• Conduct implementations, conversions, and upgrades in a manner consistent with Standard Operating Procedures within company maintenance windows; including change management procedures
• Ensure security and operational standards and procedures are maintained in accordance with the standards, and industry best practices.
• Staying well-informed of relevant changes in technology and maintaining focus on the strategic requirements by working with the business units in a continuous cycle of planning for growth and optimization.
• Delivering network diagrams, documentation and internal technical support training to successfully sustain and continuously improve the environment.
• Providing technical leadership, consultations, implementations, design, reporting and troubleshooting support.
• Performing and providing design optimization and recommendations to include planning and managing scalability, logical addressing, redundancy and capacity (logical and physical).
• Reviewing the performance of the network and evaluating its efficiency (routing and topology).
• Developing network backup/contingency plans and designing and managing the global IP schema.
• Maintaining and documenting the allocation of public IP address.
• Establish network architecture best suited to support business operations and applications.
• Ensure service level agreements align with business requirements and expectations.
  

The Person we are looking for will have:

• Bachelor or higher in IT, Computer Science or related field or exceptional prior experience. Tertiary qualifications in IT system such as CCIE preferred.
• 9+ years in IT and Technology domain; 6+ years in similar role preferred
• Expertise in any one or more of the following fields – Fibre Networks, Satellite Systems, Video Compression Systems, Video over IP, or IP Networks
• Experience in Installation of relevant infrastructure networks and software
• To be able to read and troubleshoot problems as per the given Engineering drawings
• Cross Department Knowledge
• Business Process development and re-engineering
• Knowledge on Architectural Framework
• Technical expertise in systems configuration, design and maintenance as well as sustaining and troubleshooting Network and data centre connections
