Executive Producer, Context
 
The Executive Producer, Context will be responsible for shepherding new AJ+ expansion projects from conception to stable execution, starting with an Africa-based media criticism show. The initial priority for the EP for Special Projects will be bringing the Africa-based show online and stabilizing its production and output. This job will require hiring, training, overseeing new staff, and integrating the new show
with existing AJ+ production processes.

The Executive Producer - Context will  be responsible for overseeing a small team of 1-2 staff in innovating in terms of outputs outside of our current workflows – that do not fit into what our teams currently do. These could be experiments in length, style or format, while working closely with editorial management to ensure that these new pieces of output fit within AJ+ guidelines around brand, tone, and editorial voice and strategy.

The EP will guide how special projects maintain AJ+ editorial and storytelling standards, particularly through AJ+‘s unique voice and Global South strategy. The role reports to the Supervising EP on the innovation output, and reports to the AJ+ Editorial Lead in all other respects.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead the vision for how AJ+ mission, vision and values are implemented in the new Africa-based show, and other special projects thereafter.
  •  Manager for a medium sized team
  • Ensure that the team is writing clear, factually accurate scripts in line with the AJ+ voice
  • Ensure that the team is producing visually compelling, well-edited videos to appropriate production standards
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of special project video quality, referring up to senior management for editorial and visual guidance when needed
  • Collaborate closely with Audience Development in terms of best practices around content creation on social platforms
  • Work collaboratively with other teams who are essential to the publishing and quality control process including Engagement, Creative and Copy
  • Develop efficient workflows for special project content creation
  • Develop experimental formats in line with AJ+ editorial strategy

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 8 years’ experience in online journalism, with emphasis in social media strategy and specific knowledge of different platforms essential
  • 2 years’ experience of leading teams in production
  • Excellent knowledge of editorial standards
  • Excellent knowledge of editorial standards
  • Experience developing efficient workflows
  • Strong writing abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of AJ+ and its competitor set
  • Understanding of AJ+ core issues and editorial agenda
  • This role is remote, and candidate’s hours must substantially overlap with the African workday
