Summary:

The Assistant Producer provides logistical and editorial support to a Producer or Senior Producer making a documentary, magazine or discussion programme, whether shot in the field or in the studio. The Assistant Producer assists the Producer in all stages of a television programme, with direct accountability for the execution of a programme intention to a specific brief, referring when necessary on editorial matters.

This position will contribute to and develop ideas for programmes, ensuring timely delivery of proposals in the annual and top up commissioning rounds at local and, where required, at network level. The successful candidate will plan and produce content on multiple platforms, in accordance with Al Jazeera guidelines and under the editorial guidance of a more senior editorial figure as well as contribute and pitch ideas for programmes.

Candidates must be eligible to work in United States.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with editor and producer on informative packages
  • Find and complete a rough cut of visual elements using Avid
  • Assist in compiling research
  • Suggest new ideas for shows. Come up with different angles for existing stories
  • Work with Digital Producer on maintaining social media platforms and online presence
  • Assist Interview Producer with guest bookings, logistics, travel and reservations
  • Come up with ideas for innovative animations and graphics to be used in the show
  • On recording days coordinate with studio crew to ensure set is ready

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in TV or related fields as Researcher on factual programmes of an appropriate type (documentaries, discussions or magazines)
  • Researching documentary, magazine and/or discussion programme ideas
  • Wide knowledge of current affairs
  • Knowledge of processes involved in making documentary, magazine or discussion programmes
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
