AJ+ is looking for a Contract Associate Producer to help support our fast-paced newsroom where we create innovative short form news content for a digitally connected audience. This isn’t a basic or mundane role - we intend to put you to work creating video content from the very start.

This early career position is ideal for journalists with strong instincts for what makes a story shareable on social media. You’ll be looking to learn from seasoned journalists while bringing new ideas of your own to the table – we’re always developing our formats and style.

As with all our journalists, APs are expected to be on top of U.S. and world news. AJ+ is a unique digital news & storytelling project promoting human rights & equality, holding power to account, & amplifying voices of the powerless.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Associate Producer will work under the News Executive Producer and will be responsible for producing select pieces of video content from start to finish
  • Assisting producers and senior producers with research, setting up interviews and other tasks
  • Creating accurate, concise, and engaging content using creative storytelling techniques
  • Conceiving, pitching, and executing story ideas
  • Meeting daily deadlines
  • Following AJ+ editorial guidelines and ethics
  • Ensuring that AJ+ content is consistent with goals
  • This is a rotating shift-based job that may require set evening and weekend hours

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree or relevant experience
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an editorial position
  • Proven experience in video production or online journalism
  • Outstanding writing and video scripting ability
  • Outstanding ability to write concise and accurate journalistic headlines and summaries
  • A clear understanding of AJ+ editorial identity and the style of our content
  • Ability to work under tight pressure and deadlines
  • Ability to work long, flexible hours and adapt to changing priorities
  • Sound editorial judgment on a range of global issues
  • Adobe Premiere experience preferred
