The Head of IT & Broadcast is responsible for the availability, operational stability, efficiency, and security of the AJMN corporate and broadcast infrastructure in Washington DC and across the America.

In addition to managing the Broadcast Infrastructure, LAN network, IT systems and corporate services support, you will ensure that department will meet or exceed key performance targets. You will lead process optimization across the organization in America.

You must be a seasoned leader with a proven background in the TV ecosystem with an emphasis on highly scalable mission-critical media solutions. Must have an understanding of technology trends throughout Broadcast industry, Digital Products, Networking, Enterprise Systems, Information Security, Service Desk, Cloud and able to leverage these opportunities to drive improvements in the workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and enforce adherence to established processes and documentation standards, as well as meeting business demands in a timely and professional manner in accordance with the agreed-upon OLAs and SLAs. This would include leading, mentoring, evaluating, and developing technology teams.
  • Establish relationship with technology partners, which may include suppliers, vendors, service providers, headquarter teams and other regional hubs and teams with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ensure that the AJMNs LANs, Systems, Broadcast Systems, Corporate Applications and Datacenter's meet the needs of Aljazeera and are maintained according to world‐class standards and efficiency.
  • Ensure that IT Operations and Broadcast Operations run well defined and implemented Service Management processes.
  • Manages the operations of an Infrastructure platforms, including server, storage, databases, middleware, and network, as well as applications and systems which directly support the end‐user environment.
  • Ensure technology refreshment and critical migrations in a brownfield operation, and ensure services impact is minimized, properly communicated and agreed upon as per the standard process of change management.
  • Provide on‐going technical leadership in supporting stability and scalability initiatives.
  • Manage the identification, resolution, and root cause analysis of Enterprise Infrastructure/Network issues. Manage the measurement and reporting for services availability, performance and volume.
  • Make network and systems infrastructure compliant in all activities with organizational, security, architectural and other IT policies and standards.
  • Ensure availability and efficiency of systems, network, and broadcast services.
  • Ensure the adoption of effective policies, procedures, tools, techniques and plans relating to systems service level management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, IT, security and architecture policies and standards.
  • Prepares budgets, cost benefit analysis, feasibility reports and impact studies of new solutions.
  • Interfaces with senior management across the network to forecast and plan for future requirements of News, Editorial and other end-users to facilitate coverage of breaking news and major events.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, trust, and responsibility within the Technology teams that aligns with Al Jazeera core values.
  • Lead the technical information gathering, RFP preparation, tender & procurement process

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or higher in IT, Broadcast or equivalent filed
  • 10+ years in similar domain; with at‐least 8+ years in a News/Sports/Entertainment channel in similar systems and 4+ years in a team lead role
  • Industry certifications such as:
  1. Projects Management, ideally, PMP Certified
  2. IT Service Management, ideally, Certified ITIL4 Managing Professional / Expert / ISO/IEC 20000
  3. Information Security, ideally, Certified CISSP / Certified Information Systems Security Professional o Operational Excellence and Quality Management, ideally, Certified LSSBB / Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  4. Agile Software Development methodologies, ideally, SCRUM Product Owner. o Governance and Data Protection Regulations, ideally, COBIT Assessor / OneTrust Privacy Professional
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing and improving business processes according to the best practices such as ITIL, COBIT or similar frameworks of ITSM, including but not limited to incident, problem, change, and availability and patch management.
  • Excellent Knowledge of Broadcast industry standards & Engineering workflows
  • Knowledge of OS Systems and Microsoft Technologies
  • Knowledge of Hyper-V and VMware virtualization
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP/VOIP protocol suites, application transport and network infrastructure protocols.
  • Vendor management and negotiating qualities to establish win-win relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience with both internal and external auditing processes
