Producer - AJ+ 
 
AJ+ is looking for a Producer to join our newsroom to take our deployment content to the next level and help develop a weekly field show for YouTube. The Producer is responsible for producing high-quality, character-driven short documentary content on a monthly basis. A successful candidate should be comfortable working in the field alongside a shooter/editor and an AP, as well as working in smaller teams or even solo depending on the nature of the story.
 
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Pitch compelling stories in keeping in the AJ+ core agenda and of interest to a digital audience 
  • Work on pre-production of assigned deployments 
  • Setup and access interviews, coordinate logistics, conduct research on story, work and with shooter/editor on visual expectations 
  • Work in the field in the U.S. and occasionally internationally - communicating all updates on project to Executive Producer 
  • Work across teams to ensure that Planning, Engagement, and Audience Development departments are constantly up to speed on the production schedule 
  • Provide an initial draft of structure of stories and write factually accurate and compelling scripts 
  • Provide social media copy to be used across various social networks for the assigned stories 
  • Work with fact-checkers to ensure scripts are factually accurate 
  • Comply with field safety and ethical reporting practices 
  • Coordinate field team travel logistics 
  • Engage with audience on social media in professional manner while following network guidelines 
  • Contribute editorially strong and creative ideas in meetings and discussions 
  • Assess new information and react quickly to editorial developments 
  • Carry out duties in line with Al Jazeera editorial guidelines and ethics
 
Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Minimum of 3 years in journalism
  • Proven track record of delivering content that is successful on YouTube is preferred.
