Position Summary:

 Installs, maintains and repairs wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting, and other electrical systems. Working conditions may include restricted movement, dirty environment, hazardous materials, lifting and carrying heavy objects.



 Duties vary from one position to another but in general the work performed by electricians includes but is not limited to:

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, wiring, and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions.
  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
  • Repairs and maintains low voltage systems (under 750V).
  • Appropriately handles and is familiar with all testing and electrical repair tools and equipment.
  • Perform tasks with minimum supervision and in accordance with Ainsworth’s Health &  Safety policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by and in accordance with all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental company policies and government legislation/regulations.
  • Adhere to the Company’s Quality System operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.


  • A valid and up to date journeyman trade Certificate of Qualification
  • High School degree, diploma, or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified college.
  • Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, materials and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, regulations
  • Knowledge of electrical application for high and low voltage electric systems
  • Skill in the installation, repair and maintenance of all types of electrical system equipment and components
  • Knows how to read and draw electrical sketches and schematics.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills an asset.
  • The ability to distinguish colours to work with colour-coded wiring 
  • The ability to work in high places 
  • The ability to get along well with co-workers 
  • The ability to keep up to date with changing technology
  • The ability to do precision work
