Position Summary

As Branch Manager of Vancouver Island, reporting to the Senior Vice President – BC, you will be responsible for the overall execution and performance of the branch. This role is responsible for the health and safety of our people, service executed on mechanical projects, controls technical retrofit, and new construction projects. People and performance management will fall within your scope to ensure processes, best practices, standards are adhered to, delivered, and submitted on a per project basis. Overseeing and monitoring development and growth in addition to planning and established training programs for building automation technicians is also a function of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full P&L responsibility for the financial management and performance for Vancouver Island including budgeting, operational forecasting, sales forecasting, CRM administration, service WIP management and project execution and delivery of booked margin.
  • Analyze financial reporting systems and project schedules to proactively address potential problems and manage risk.  Investigate solutions and establish project recovery plans.
  • Provides ongoing cost and estimate analysis reporting.  Manage allocation of costs to financial reporting systems.
  • Responsible for asset management including collections, cost control, progress billings and payables.
  • Manage a team of technical professionals to plan, execute and deliver assigned projects.
  • Resolves all issues and problems related to customer service, employee relations and health and safety.
  • Assist sales as a technical resource in large projects, development of new work and change orders from the existing customer base.
  • Estimate work and present proposals to the customer.
  • Assist sales in project development efforts and perform pre-bid reviews with sales and operations utilizing technical tools to measure past and current performance benchmarking.
  • Effectively communicate project progress and financial status to management, including opportunities for improvement in project scope that result in value add
  • Manages material procurement, warehousing, and logistics processes for this office.
  • Ensures project document controls follow contract requirements and Ainsworth’s control standards.


  • Engineering or trade school training such as BCIT, an engineering degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Installation, service, engineering, or commissioning experience related to HVAC and mechanical systems is desired.
  • Seven (7) years of comprehensive, technical, and operational knowledge of the operations and service business, particularly related to smaller fast track retrofit, remodel, and tenant improvement types of projects.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of construction project management experience.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience. 
  • Strong computer capabilities in project management software, financial accounting systems, MS Office (excel, word, power point), Adobe Writer, Visio and basic Windows environment.
  • PMP Certification is an asset.
  • Able to travel when required.
