Position Summary:
Reports to the manager, the Refrigeration Technician Journeyman will be responsible for commercial installation, testing, and balancing of energy management systems, including refrigeration, HVAC, lighting, and cold storage facilities. The position may also be required to take on responsibility for project execution in keeping with established deadlines and budgetary restrictions. Refrigeration equipment includes refrigerated shelving units, coolers with glass doors, bunker-style units, and walk-in refrigerators. Installation may be completed at new construction sites or may involve removing and replacing existing refrigeration equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Install, program, and test control systems for HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting controls in a grocery store and cold storage atmosphere.
- Install solder copper pipe, including configuring 90-degree, 45 degree, tees and other fittings, diagnose water-leak complaints, remove cases from truck without damage,
- install PVC drainpipe, recognize major case types, locates and sets superheat specification, receive, uncrate and properly hang blower coils, install thermostatic expansion valves.
- Locate refrigeration leak, fabricate hangers, struts and supports, identify pipe size and fittings by sight, power wash air-cooled condensing units, layout complex coolers.
- Coordination of job set-up, including sourcing and securing required equipment, resources, and/or travel requirements.
- Demonstrate an understanding and adherence to all work safety policies and procedures including OSHA and any local authorities governing requirements.
- Follow applicable building and safety code requirements during the Installation of such equipment and controls.
- Communicates with customers and their representatives, including building owners, mechanical contractors, other trades, subcontractors, and field support staff to ensure efficient project/installation completion and minimal pipe interruption.
- Responsible for timely completion of assigned projects and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain and manage truck inventory in an accurate, neat and orderly manner as well as adhere to vehicle maintenance program guidelines (If applicable).
Requirements:
- Successful completion of advanced level (Block 4) courses plus relevant work experience totaling minimum 8000 hours.
- Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Certification with Interprovincial Red Seal preferred
- 10+ years in commercial refrigeration. Supermarket experienced preferred
- Knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems, computer-controlled systems
- Valid driver’s license with safe driving record
- Requires Medium to High Level of Physical Demand including:
- Lifting/carrying up to 60 lbs
- Pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs
- Frequent to constant overhead work
- Work at high elevation, ladder climbing and roof top
- Work outdoors
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends
- Travel throughout the Atlantic provinces.
- Intermediate Windows experience preferred (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Essential Skills:
- Brazing
- Mechanical Aptitude
- Blueprint interpretation
- Troubleshooting
- Communication (verbal and written)
