Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. Through the collection as well as collaborations with leading museums around the world, the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs to more than 1 million visitors annually.

 

We are currently searching for a talented, passionate, and business-minded Sous Chef (Outlets) to join the Food & Beverage department to oversee and supervise food preparation and line service under the directive of the Executive Sous Chef. This role will oversee all food preparation and food service for the AGO kitchens. They will direct activities of staff reporting to them while being responsible for the maintenance of the Main Kitchen. The Sous Chef (Outlets) will participate in outlets recipe testing and have the opportunity to contribute to the creative development of menus and specials.

  • A number of years directly related experience in a comparable position at a high quality hospitality operation or directly related Restaurant cooking experience in a high quality, volume, hospitality operation.
  • Directly related experience on a professional culinary team supervising and/or mentoring subordinate staff
  • Extensive knowledge of food handling and advanced culinary techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety and sanitation standards in accordance with municipal health board.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle knives and all kitchen equipment and to instruct safe handling to others.
  • Well developed organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Well developed awareness of contemporary creative cuisine, gastronomy and food and wine pairing techniques.
  • Awareness of current food trends, relevant competitors and customer expectations within a high-end hospitality operation.
  • Familiarity with food and labour cost control systems.
