Description

Job Title: Solution & Systems Integration Architect SME

Location:  Hybrid - 2 days a week on-site - DC Regional Area

Salary Range:  197,000-262,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Solution & Systems Integration Architect Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a large-scale federal modernization program. This role owns end-to-end solution architecture across complex, interdependent systems, translating mission and business requirements into secure, scalable, interoperable, and supportable technical designs.

This is a hands-on architecture role. The Architect will develop detailed architecture views, trade studies, decision artifacts, and implementation-ready designs, while working closely with engineering, cybersecurity, data, network, cloud, mobility, ITSM, and program teams to carry solutions from concept through review, implementation, transition, and operational stabilization.

This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC. Metro Area U.S. Citizenship is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate mission, business, technical, security, and operational requirements into enterprise solution architectures and technical baselines.
  • Develop and maintain context, logical, physical, component, interface, integration, deployment, and transition architecture views.
  • Apply enterprise standards, approved patterns, shared services, reference architectures, and reusable design approaches.
  • Lead and participate in architecture compliance reviews, technical design reviews, and implementation-readiness assessments.
  • Conduct trade studies and alternatives analysis involving cloud adoption, modernization, technical debt, application rationalization, interoperability, resiliency, performance, and cost.
  • Identify architecture risks associated with interfaces, dependencies, data, security, performance, networks, platforms, and operations.
  • Identify lifecycle dependencies and technical risks early enough to prevent impacts to delivery.
  • Coordinate across application, cloud, platform, network, cybersecurity, data, identity, mobility, ITSM, and operations teams.
  • Resolve cross-domain, cross-vendor, and cross-organizational design conflicts while maintaining program schedules and architectural integrity.
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, governance, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Support application rationalization, legacy modernization, shared services, and system-of-systems integration efforts.
  • Define and validate APIs, interfaces, integration patterns, data exchanges, dependencies, and nonfunctional requirements.
  • Support engineering teams during development, testing, deployment, transition, and post-implementation stabilization.
  • Maintain architecture decisions, assumptions, deviations, dependencies, interface records, and technical diagrams in approved repositories.
  • Develop clear architecture diagrams and decision artifacts and communicate technical tradeoffs to engineers, program managers, customers, and executive stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of IT experience, including at least 5 years designing, implementing, or governing complex enterprise solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated architecture experience across at least three domains, such as:
    • Application
    • Systems Integration
    • Data
    • Cloud / Platform
    • Network
    • Cybersecurity
    • Identity
    • Endpoint / Mobility
    • ITSM
    • IT Operations
  • Strong experience designing and integrating complex, interdependent enterprise systems.
  • Experience defining APIs, interfaces, dependencies, nonfunctional requirements, security constraints, and operational requirements.
  • Experience leading or participating in architecture and technical design reviews.
  • Strong understanding of implementation readiness, system dependencies, integration risks, and operational transition.
  • Ability to develop clear architecture diagrams, decision records, technical baselines, and trade studies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, and cross-team collaboration skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Federal Government or large-scale system-of-systems modernization programs.
  • Experience with Sparx Enterprise Architect, Prolaborate, ArchiMate, UML, SysML, BPMN, or similar modeling tools and standards.
  • Architecture, cloud, integration, cybersecurity, or systems-engineering certifications.
  • Experience with application rationalization, legacy modernization, platform engineering, shared services, and cloud migration.
  • Experience designing API-driven, event-driven, and service-based integration architectures.
  • Familiarity with zero-trust-aligned architecture principles.
  • Experience resolving complex cross-vendor or cross-organizational technical issues under fixed delivery milestones.
