Position Title: Junior Purchaser

Target Salary Range:  65-75K plus competitive benefits

Position Summary

The Junior Purchaser supports the procurement of commercial software, hardware, peripherals, accessories, and related IT products for a Federal Contractor serving government customers. This position assists with purchase requisitions, vendor quotes, purchase orders, delivery tracking, procurement documentation, and compliance with company purchasing policies, customer requirements, and applicable federal acquisition regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, responsive, and interested in developing a career in government contracting procurement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process purchase requisitions for software licenses, computer hardware, peripherals, accessories, maintenance renewals, and related IT products.
  • Obtain vendor quotes, compare pricing, validate part numbers, confirm product availability, and support best-value purchasing decisions.
  • Prepare, issue, and track purchase orders in accordance with company procurement procedures and contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal program teams, contracts, finance, receiving, and vendors to support timely fulfillment of customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, quote files, order documentation, vendor communications, and delivery status updates.
  • Assist with supplier database maintenance, and collection of required vendor documentation.
  • Monitor order confirmations, shipping status, backorders, substitutions, and delivery concerns; escalate risks or delays as needed.
  • Confirm receipt and acceptance of shipped items and maintain complete supporting documentation in contract and procurement files.
  • Support compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), contract flow-down requirements, small business goals, and internal purchasing thresholds, as applicable.
  • Assist with price reasonableness documentation, competitive quote support, sole-source backup, and procurement file completeness.
  • Help identify cost savings, preferred supplier opportunities, and process improvements for recurring purchases.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, contracts, procurement, or a related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of purchasing, procurement, contracts, logistics, administrative, or customer service experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with vendors, internal customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procurement procedures.

Desired, but not required Qualifications

  • Experience purchasing IT products such as software subscriptions, laptops, desktops, monitors, docking stations, printers, cables, accessories, and warranty or maintenance renewals.
  • Familiarity with federal contracting, FAR/DFARS concepts, procurement documentation, or government contract compliance.
  • Experience using purchasing, accounting, ERP, or contract management systems.
  • Ability to read quotes, validate product specifications, and identify discrepancies in pricing, quantities, or terms.
  • Interest in developing skills in sourcing, supplier management, contract purchasing, and procurement compliance.

Work Environment

This role is typically performed in an office, remote, or hybrid business environment. The position may require extended computer use, frequent email communication, and coordination across departments and supplier organizations.
