Technical Writer/Editor

  • San Diego Preferred / Remote
  • Base Pay $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 / Year
  • Employee Type: Full-Time

 

ActioNet is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to provide hands-on documentation development, editing, and quality support to ensure technical packages are complete, accurate, consistent, and ready for review and submission. The role works closely with technical SMEs, project managers, drafters, and reviewers to incorporate source materials and comments, resolve documentation gaps, maintain version control, and improve overall documentation quality and throughput.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Draft and update technical documentation using established templates, source materials, engineering inputs, and reviewer comments.
  • Assemble complete documentation packages by incorporating required drawings, attachments, tables, figures, and supporting materials.
  • Edit and format documentation for grammar, clarity, terminology, numbering, cross-references, and compliance with established standards.
  • Perform package-level reviews to ensure narratives, drawings, equipment lists, building information, and other components are complete, accurate, consistent, and aligned.
  • Identify missing information, discrepancies, conflicting content, or other issues and coordinate resolution or elevate them to the Lead Technical Writer as appropriate.
  • Prepare documentation packages for internal review by completing required pre-submission checks and verifying readiness for the next stage of review.
  • Incorporate revisions and adjudicated comments from technical SMEs, PMs, QA reviewers, and customer feedback accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain document organization, naming conventions, and version control within SharePoint and other designated repositories.
  • Track documentation status and support the movement of packages through established drafting, review, revision, and submission workflows.
  • Coordinate with technical SMEs, PMs, drafters, and other contributors to obtain information and source materials needed to complete assigned documentation.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing for IT systems, DoD projects, or government contracts.
  • Strong understanding of IT design documentation, test plans, test scripts, test procedures, and system validation requirements.
  • Experience developing and maintaining CDRLs, Data Item Descriptions (DIDs), and other government contract deliverables.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and documentation tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience supporting DoD IT system testing, verification, and validation activities.
  • Knowledge of federal acquisition regulations (FAR, DFARS), MIL-STD documentation requirements, and DoD program compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with configuration management processes and tools such as DOORS, JIRA, or other requirements tracking software.
  • Local candidates who can report on-site, as needed will be given preference.
