Description
ActioNet has a open opportunity for a skilled Network Engineer in the San Antonio, TX area. The focus of this initiative is to improve IT practices and mechanisms , ensuring consistent and reliable support for end users without disrupting local operation .

- Support local area network (LAN), wireless network (WLAN), wide area network (WAN), and detect, report, record, diagnose and resolve network issues. LAN configurations changes include data ports, VLANS, trunk interfaces, spanning-tree configuration, Switched Virtual Interfaces, ether-channels, Hot Standby Routing Protocol, Virtual Switching System, Stackwise Virtual configuration, and Architecture.
- Perform WLAN troubleshooting tasks and assist less experienced staff.
- Use Ethernet communication to interpret packet captures to aid troubleshooting
- IP management using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol scopes, and IP reservations
- Configure and troubleshoot Cisco Identity Services Engine for authentication of devices.
- Measure network performance and connectivity on an ongoing basis.
- Create Port Protocols and System documentation for systems to function with firewall.
- Use packet captures, and read-only commands on the firewall to show traffic behavior.
- Perform on-call duty on evenings, weekends, and holidays to fix critical network outages.
- Assist data center manager with checks of air conditioners during maintenance.
- Point to point traffic flows between multiple Layer 3 subnets or Layer 2 VLANs
- Switch trunk uplinks, VLAN pruning, and ether-channels for bandwidth and redundancy.
- Switchport configuration to accommodate a variety of network host devices.
- Minimize downtime for maintenance, coordinate maintenance, and ensure high uptime.
- Install and replace network equipment.
- Perform software upgrades on network equipment for cybersecurity compliance.
- Provide power over ethernet for network devices, cameras, access points, and VOIP.
- Manage network authentication by 802.1X and authentication systems.
- Provide bill of materials for project work orders requiring equipment to be purchased.
- Wireless surveys identifying optimal access point placement or source of interference.
- Connect network hosts to wireless network for deployments and testing new devices.
- Provide documentation, standard operating procedures, and network diagrams.
- Suggest and design new network solutions, and work with Engineers on authentication.
- Management tasks, install, organization, labeling, and maintenance of cabling systems for efficient connectivity, minimized interference and operational integrity.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot common network, TCP/IP and wireless protocols.
- Gather voice data requirements, perform surveys, track cable issues and work orders.
- Track and complete telecommunications tickets and requirements within target dates.
- Ensure compliance of Optical Fiber Cabling Components with standards and procedures.
- Physical preparation and install of conduit and fire stop materials.
- Support multiple cable and conduit install projects concurrently.
- Maintain proficiency for operation and maintenance of cable systems and test equipment.
- Analyze and resolve network and communication services user problems.
- Ensure proactive response to network problems for equipment and systems.
- Use of Waverunner and Fluke Optical Time Domain Reflectometer testing equipment.
- Support telecommunications staff with daily voice and data infrastructure requests.
- Basic knowledge in manual splicing and terminating fiber cable.
- Ensure administrative functions of timekeeping and reports are filed.
- Team lead on projects coordinating efforts of other technical personnel.
- On-site lead for contractors in the branch pertaining to functions.
Required Job Experience:
- Subject matter expert in network technologies and strategy for LAN, WLAN, and WAN.
- Ten (10) years experience supporting LAN and WLAN activities consisting of fifty devices.
- Five (5)years experience in a major hospital supporting more than 100+ beds environment.
- Five (5) years experience supporting a military production network.
- Cisco Identity Service Engine training and 4 years experience in production environment
- Thorough understanding of IP addressing, subnetting, and supernetting using Internet Protocol version 4.
- Designing and deploying wireless network consisting of 1300+ wireless access points.
One form of a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) level certification (i.e., CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Security, CCNP Data Center, CCNP Collaboration, CCNP Service Provider, and/or CCNP DevNet Professional).
