CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA

 

Safe Medical Care Learning is central to the CMPA’s vision of being a learning organization. The department’s core activities include learning strategy, design, development & delivery, and administrative support. Safe Medical Care Learning incorporates needs assessment, design, delivery, and evaluation within a continuous improvement cycle to deliver learning to members and CMPA employees. Digital learning products contribute to a blended learning approach and are readily accessible through the modernization of the CMPA website. The learning group utilizes state of the art pedagogical science to share knowledge and improve practice of members and their teams while also contributing to the internal learning needs of CMPA staff, leaders and governance through internal collaborations.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Instructional and Graphic Designer is responsible for designing and developing learning materials and custom graphics such as posters, slideshows, images and other assets to be used in synchronous, asynchronous and hybrid learning delivery. Using knowledge of, and expertise in, adult learning theory, andragogy, pedagogy and instructional design principles, the incumbent will lead the full learning development and design process. 

 

The Instructional and Graphic Designer works as part of a multidisciplinary team to identify and analyze needs, design & develop assets, and implement new or updated learning solutions and/or design assets. The success of this role relies heavily on the ability to liaise with internal clients and subject matter experts to provide guidance throughout the design and development process.

 

The incumbent works to quickly and effectively to assess learning needs and is driven by a passion for developing and maintaining high-quality learning products and learning experiences.

 

 

POSITION ACTIVITIES

 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify and analyze learning needs in order to design & develop solutions (blended or classroom, online, virtual, simulations, role plays, games, facilitator and participant guides, etc.) that enhance retention and knowledge transfer.
  • Design and develop educational assets such as, but not limited to, posters, slideshows, newsletters and infographics.
  • Apply adult learning theory, andragogy, pedagogy and instructional design principles to lead the full learning development and design process.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to internal clients and subject matter experts throughout the entire design and development process.
  • Follow quality control and quality assurance processes to ensure that all educational and graphic design assets are current, accurate, consistent, and meet CMPA design, brand, EDI and technical standards.
  • Ensure accessibility of all digital products meet the minimum standards as defined by the AODA and WCAG 2.0.
  • Collaborate with other CMPA training developers to balance and support multiple projects and priorities.
  • Maintain repository of all digital assets and supporting graphic design files.
  • Manage and prioritize all graphic design related requests using the project management tool.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelors Degree or college diploma in graphic design, adult education and/or instructional design
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in a busy, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign etc.)
  • Experience working with Storyline and Rise
  • Experience working with software applications and related infrastructures such as MS Office and Articulate Suite 360
  • Experience building courses for and within a learning management system or learning experience platform

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task on projects of varying complexity and strategic importance.
  • Strong team player with proven interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively and work closely with web developers, subject matter experts, business partners, facilitators and other designers.
  • Ability to act independently within defined objectives.
  • Strong analytical and proven problem-solving skills, initiative and ability to multitask across multiple projects.
  • Thoroughness with attention to detail.
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written in English. French is considered an asset.

 

POSTING DETAILS

 

  • Job Type: Regular Full-Time
  • Salary Range: $68,000 to $79,100 – this role is classified as level 7
  • Skills Assessment: Selected candidates may be required to complete a skills assessment
  • Location: Hybrid – Primary Remote Job. You can work from a home-based office the majority of the time within the provinces of Ontario and Québec, with regular on-site presence at the CMPA office (1-2 days per week). If you prefer, you can choose to work out of the CMPA office in Ottawa, Ontario near the beautiful Dow’s Lake. This position cannot be performed fully remotely.
