Hours: Per Diem - Monday to Friday between 10am - 6pm as needed

Location: Orange and Sullivan County

Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour

PERCENT OF TRAVEL: 80%

OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:

A Family Partner is a parent/caregiver who is raising or has raised a child with mental health concerns and is personally familiar with the associated challenges.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Empower families to make informed choices regarding the nature of supports for themselves and their child by providing an understanding of what resources, services and supports are available and how to access them in their communities
  • Develop a family’s capacity to actively participate in all decisions about services and supports for themselves and their child
  • Supporting the efforts of the families in caring for and strengthening their children’s mental and physical health, development and well-being of their children.

 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:

  • Activities can consist of engaging the parent/caregiver in activities in the home and community
  • Assisting parent/caregiver in meeting the needs of the youth through educating, supporting, coaching, modeling and guiding
  • Teaching parent/caregiver how to network/link to community resources and treatment providers
  • Teaching parent/caregiver how to advocate for services and resources to meet the youth’s needs
  • Guiding and support linkage to individual, peer/parent support, and self-help groups for parent/caregiver
  • Family Partner have first-hand knowledge of the services and supports available in the community

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Be a parent or primary caregiver of a child with a diagnosed history of emotional/behavioral health disorders; and would be willing to share your experiences with participants and colleagues.
  • Be able to complete Mandated Reporting self-directed on line training
  • Be able to complete and obtain their Family Peer Advocate Certification
  • Complete safety in the home community training
  • Complete OMH online Foundations training
  • Valid NY State Driver's License 
  • Ability to communicate in  Spanish is preferred

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School or GED

 

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Able to work in open space floor plan
  • Must be capable to move throughout work day and follow people served throughout community
  • Work alongside co-workers within 3 feet
