Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Manager, Hospice Accounting position is responsible for overseeing the Hospice Operations Accounting team.  This position is responsible for managing the accounting functions for the group, including supervising the accounting staff.  Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Hospice Accounting are staff which range from Senior Accountants to Staff Accountants, all of which currently reside in Chicago, IL. The individual in this role will need to be comfortable with travelling to Chicago, IL for a few months during the close process, which will allow for relationship building and better management of the team.

Responsibilities also include ensuring all financial information is captured timely, completely, and reported accurately, both internally and externally.  Person will be responsible for ensuring proper internal controls are in place and being followed.  Providing oversight for the day-to-day accounting operations of the Hospice Accounting team is a primary function of this position.

This position will be responsible for the leadership, training, career development and coaching of staff. The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated history of managing people, technical accounting as well as other projects, and systems to deliver the support and solutions required in a rapidly growing business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the Hospice Accounting function
  • Assist with the management of the monthly financial close process, including ensuring timely and accurate recording of all Hospice journal entries
  • Partner with the FP&A team to develop/prepare monthly variance analysis for the Hospice line of business and communicate findings to senior leadership
  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are properly followed to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected.
  • Ensures that company financial records, under responsibility, are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance.

 

 

  • Responsible for preparation of higher risk/ more complex monthly/quarterly account reconciliations Assists with coordination of work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records.
  • Assist in the development of new policies and procedures and implement with training and guidance to the organization as necessary.
  • Assist in hiring and training of new staff as needed.
  • Handle special accounting projects, taking full responsibility for the administration and integrity of the project, along with ability to timely and appropriately communicate status updates, roadblocks, and all other pertinent information to leadership.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment preferred
  • At least 5-10 of experience as an Accounting Manager, preferably in a company with $750+ million in revenue
  • This position requires an undergraduate degree in accounting.
  • CPA required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, audit and internal control
  • Multi-site service industry experience preferred.
  • A combination of private and public company experience is ideal.
  • Experience using Great Plains, and FRX Reporter software are all highly preferred.
  • Experience implementing new systems/ERPs preferred.
  • MS Office Proficiency - Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills in particular
  • Ability To Travel up to 50% for the first few months, up to 10% as needed after that, all Domestic US
