Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Oral Surgery Sterilization Technician to join our dynamic oral surgery team. In this vital role, the Sterilization Technician will be responsible for ensuring that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and maintained to meet the highest standards of safety and hygiene. The role also includes traveling to our Carson, CA location twice per week for additional support.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment in a fast-paced medical setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sterilization and Decontamination:
- Sterilize and disinfect surgical instruments, tools, and other equipment following established protocols to prevent contamination and infection.
- Perform cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization using autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and other sterilization equipment.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of sterilized instruments.
- Monitor sterilization equipment for malfunctions and report issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate sterilization logs and documentation in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Quality Control and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, CDC, and other regulatory guidelines concerning infection control and sterilization processes.
- Conduct routine checks and tests to verify the effectiveness of sterilization procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the sterilization area and storage spaces.
- Assist with maintaining and updating sterilization protocols in accordance with the latest health and safety guidelines.
- Equipment Maintenance and Inventory Management:
- Assist in monitoring inventory levels of sterilization supplies and notify management of shortages or needed replacements.
- Perform routine maintenance and testing of sterilization equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Help organize and manage the instrument inventory to ensure efficient sterilization workflows.
- Collaboration with Oral Surgery Team:
- Work closely with oral surgeons, dental assistants, and other clinic staff to ensure timely availability of sterilized instruments and equipment for surgeries.
- Ensure that instruments are properly prepared, packaged, and labeled for scheduled surgeries.
- Provide support to the surgical team by assisting with the cleaning and reprocessing of instruments during and after procedures.
- Travel to Carson (2 Days per Week):
- Travel to our Carson, NV location two days per week to assist with sterilization needs and provide on-site support.
- Maintain consistent communication with the main clinic location to ensure that sterilization needs are met for both locations.
Qualifications:
- Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in sterilization or infection control, preferably in a dental, medical, or oral surgery setting.
- Knowledge of sterilization methods, equipment, and infection control procedures is a plus.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to adhere to precise procedures.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with staff and patients.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Reliable transportation and flexibility to travel to the Carson location twice a week.
- Certifications (Preferred, but not required):
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or Sterilization Technician certification is a plus.
- CPR/BLS certification (or willing to obtain).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to handle cleaning chemicals and materials in a safe manner.
