Cloud & Security Engineer

This role will require the possibility of travel to our Seattle, WA office a handful of times.
We are seeking a Cloud & Security Engineer to support and grow our Development and QA infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments. This role will primarily focus on Azure and AWS environments used by Development, QA, and Engineering teams while helping establish best practices around cloud operations, governance, security, cost management, and automation.
This is a hands-on technical role intended for an engineer who has foundational cloud experience and is looking to further develop their expertise. The successful candidate will work closely with Development, QA, DevOps, and DevIT teams to support cloud-based environments, improve operational efficiency, and help build scalable infrastructure solutions for future growth.
While cloud engineering is the primary focus, this role will occasionally assist the broader DevIT team with infrastructure-related initiatives and operational support as needed.
What You’ll Do
Cloud Infrastructure & Operations
- Administer and support Azure and AWS environments used for Development and QA activities.
- Provision, configure, monitor, and maintain cloud infrastructure resources.
- Support development teams with cloud-based environments, services, and troubleshooting.
- Assist with cloud migrations, infrastructure improvements, and platform modernization efforts.
- Monitor cloud utilization and recommend improvements to performance, reliability, and scalability.
Security & Governance
- Assist in implementing and maintaining cloud security controls and best practices.
- Participate in security reviews, audits, vulnerability remediation, and compliance activities.
- Help develop and maintain cloud governance standards, policies, and operational procedures.
- Monitor cloud environments for security risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Support identity and access management processes and cloud security configurations.
Cost Optimization & Operational Excellence
- Monitor cloud spending and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Assist with resource lifecycle management and cloud cost optimization initiatives.
- Help establish operational standards, documentation, and repeatable processes.
- Participate in capacity planning and infrastructure forecasting activities.
Automation & Tooling
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation to improve operational efficiency.
- Assist with Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives and cloud automation efforts.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and development tooling where appropriate.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with Development, QA, and DevIT teams to support project infrastructure needs.
- Participate in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for infrastructure-related issues.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations related to cloud services and security practices.
- Occasionally assist with broader infrastructure and DevIT initiatives when cloud expertise is needed.
- Protect the security and privacy of Absolute and its customers
- Other duties as assigned by management
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience supporting cloud or infrastructure environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, routing, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancing.
- Experience administering VCF (VMWare), Windows and/or Linux systems.
- Familiarity with cloud security concepts and best practices.
- Experience with scripting or automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Development, QA, or Engineering environments.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Bicep.
- Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with CI/CD platforms and DevOps practices.
- Experience with monitoring and logging platforms.
- Cloud certifications such as Azure Fundamentals, Azure Administrator, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or equivalent.
- Experience with cloud cost management and optimization tools.

The base pay range
The base salary range for this position is CAD $96,200 - $104,200 annually. The base pay offered is determined by the market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our annual bonus program.
