Scrum Master – Payment Intelligence
Description
Scrum Master – Payment Intelligence
AArete is one-of-a-kind when it comes to consulting firm culture.
We’re a global, innovative management and technology consulting firm with offices in the U.S., India, and Europe. Our name comes from the Greek word for excellence: “Areté.” And excellence is exactly what we strive for.
We’re celebrating our fourth year as one of Forbes’ World’s Best Management Consulting Firms – and our success starts with our people. From robust career development planning to competitive life and wellness benefits, AArete’s “Culture of Care” takes a holistic approach to the employee experience.
AAretians (our team members) are leaders at every level. You are encouraged to unlock your full potential by directly contributing to our mission and prioritizing personal development and fulfillment.
The Role
We are hiring a Scrum Master / Project Manager to drive the delivery cadence and operational coordination of AArete’s workstreams. You will own the sprint process for a team of data engineers, business analysts, and testers building healthcare payer analytics products on Snowflake and AWS.
This is not a ceremonial Scrum Master role. You will be the person who keeps the development machine running - managing sprint planning, backlog grooming, cross-functional coordination, dependency tracking, risk escalation, and delivery reporting. You will coordinate work across multiple concurrent workstreams including edits development, contract configuration, fee schedule automation, and reporting.
Work You’ll Do
Sprint & Delivery Management
- Own and facilitate the full Scrum cadence: sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives for the PI engineering team
- Manage the engineering backlog in Jira, ensuring stories are well-defined, estimated, prioritized, and ready for development before entering a sprint
- Track sprint velocity, burn-down, and delivery commitments. Identify slippage early and escalate proactively
- Coordinate work across multiple concurrent PI workstreams (edits development, contract configuration, fee schedules, benchmarking/reporting) to manage dependencies and prevent bottlenecks
- Produce weekly delivery status reports for DAE and PI leadership, summarizing progress, risks, blockers, and upcoming milestones
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the coordination point between the India-based engineering team and US-based delivery leads (project managers, consulting managers, and the MCS requirements team)
- Facilitate the handoff of requirements from business analysts and the MCS TRD (Technical Requirements Document) team to data engineers, ensuring clarity and completeness before development begins
- Coordinate the edits acceptance process between the engineering team and the MCS testing/validation team, tracking defects and ensuring timely resolution
- Manage cross-timezone communication: schedule and facilitate meetings during overlap windows, maintain async documentation for decisions made outside shared hours, and ensure action items are tracked and closed
Process Improvement & Team Health
- Identify and remove impediments that slow down the engineering team, whether they are technical blockers, unclear requirements, access issues, or cross-team dependencies
- Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives, process experiments, and measurement of team health metrics
- Shield the engineering team from ad hoc requests and scope creep by routing all work through the backlog and prioritization process
- Support onboarding of new team members by orienting them to the sprint process, team norms, and tooling
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain sprint boards, release plans, and delivery roadmaps in Jira
- Document team processes, sprint norms, Definition of Done, and escalation paths in Confluence
- Track and report on key delivery metrics: velocity, cycle time, defect rates, and sprint completion rates
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, Delivery Manager, Technical Project Manager, or similar role embedded with a software or data engineering team
- Hands-on experience managing Scrum or Kanban delivery for data engineering or data platform teams (not just application development)
- Strong proficiency with Jira: board configuration, backlog management, story writing, sprint metrics, and reporting dashboards
- Demonstrated experience coordinating work across globally distributed teams with daily cross-timezone collaboration (US and India experience strongly preferred)
- Understanding of data engineering workflows: ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehousing concepts, CI/CD processes, and testing/validation cycles (you don’t build them, but you need to understand what the team is doing well enough to manage delivery)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to run effective meetings, write clear status updates, and facilitate difficult conversations
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple concurrent workstreams, dependencies, and timelines without letting details slip
- Proactive approach to risk identification and escalation - you raise issues before they become crises
- Experience managing or facilitating through ambiguity, changing priorities, and competing stakeholder demands
Preferred Qualifications
• Healthcare payer or healthcare consulting industry experience
• Experience with Snowflake, AWS, or cloud data platform delivery (at the project management level, not hands-on engineering)
• Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or SAFe Scrum Master certification
• PMP or similar project management certification
• Experience with Confluence for knowledge management and process documentation
• Familiarity with Power BI or other BI tools (enough to understand reporting deliverables and timelines)
• Experience supporting teams through organizational transitions, including onboarding new team members and integrating teams across geographies
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Benefits
- Flexible Paid Time Off of up to 23 days annually, in addition to 10 paid public holidays
- Hybrid work model with flexible in-office attendance
- Comprehensive health benefits including medical insurance (Mediclaim), personal accident insurance, and term life insurance
- Generous paid parental leave program
