We are looking for a Food Technologist specialized in Plant Based Foods to our AAK Customer Innovation Center in Karlshamn

About the position

We are expanding our activities in the Plant Based area with special focus on Plant Based Meat and Plant Based Dairy. In 2019 we successfully launched AkoPlanet™ – our brand targeting the Plant Based Foods segment and we are now looking to strengthen our Customer Innovation Team further with a dedicated Food Technologist with special focus to Plant Based Foods.

An important part of our Customer Co-Development approach is our Customer Innovation Team that consists of both customer-facing Customer Innovation Managers, oils & fats technicians and food and application technologists working in our different labs and pilots. In this position you will work in the Plant Based Dairy and Meat pilot with hands-on application work.

You will participate in the development of both customer specific solutions and pro-active new developments and you will produce and evaluate various Plant Based Dairy and Plant Based Meat products together with the rest of the pilot team and in close collaboration with the Customer Innovation Managers and our long-term NPD team. Our core business is value adding vegetable fats and oils and we combine deep knowledge about fats and oils chemistry and functionality with profound application knowledge to support our customers in the creation of new products as well as in trouble shooting and optimization projects. You will report into the Dairy & Meat pilot team leader and belong to the pan-European Customer Innovation organization.

The team works also in close collaboration with our Business Development function in order to produce prototypes and other marketing support as well as to support our customer education program AAK Academy™. It also participates and supports during customer visits in the Customer Innovation Centre in Karlshamn.

The Plant Based Dairy & Meat pilot team covers three areas;

  • Hands-on application work producing mainly whipped toppings, ice cream, yoghurt, cheese, margarine and minced meat products in pilot scale
  • In the physical chemistry analytical lab, we analyze fundamental properties such as crystal forms, rheological properties, melting and crystallization behavior of oils and fats, but also of the finished end-products produced in the pilot
  • In the sensory lab we systematically evaluate different attributes in the end products by using a trained sensory panel

Careful documentation of application trials and analysis are important parts of the responsibilities of this position.

Who are you? 

Experience:

We are looking for someone who can work independently in our Plant Based Dairy and Meat pilot with both routine work and development and analytical work. We are looking for someone with minimum 5 years practical experience as chef, butcher, dairy technologist or pastry cook or with experience from similar positions in the food industry. For this position we especially value experience from the Meat or Plant Based Foods segment and capacity and willingness to learn new processes and way of working as we develop this segment further.

Our business language is English and therefore a good command in spoken English is mandatory.
